Do you need to remove the hood to replace a fender??

I want to change the driverside fender on my car (Aftermarket) I bought an original. I know I need to take the inner wheel wells out, but does the hood need to come off?? Any tips? The car is an 89 GTA.
Thanks
Mike

No

Unbolt the fender including the hood bolts on that side. Have 1 person lift the hood carefully while a 2nd person removes the fender. Tape the door edge first tho. If you've had your fender off 50 times like I have, you can probably even do it by yourself, but I wouldn't suggest trying it unless you're real familiar with how the fender comes off.

Thanks Jim85IROC, so basically I do not have to remove the hood. I just need to have someone hold it up when I remove the old fender, and then put the new one in?? If I am not ready to put the new fender on yet, can I just set the hood down on that side until I am ready? Sorry I sound stupid, but I just don't want to remove the hood, and have to try and re-align that also. The fender is enough! LOL
Thanks again man
Mike

when the fender is off, just bolt the hood back on.

I've done it once by myself, without removing the hood and it was very easy. You shouldn't have a problem.

Possible to be done without taking off the hood but just an idea if you ever take off the hood drill a 1/8 in hole into where it bolts to. Simply take a punch and line up the hood and hinges using the hole. Works well if you have a good alignment already.
