Iroc Z to Z28 Rear Brake Trade
I recently found an IROC-Z in the local U-Pull-It junk yard. The car has been picked over pretty good but the Rear Disc's and Rear Axle are untouched and look Great! I believe it's a 1984 Iroc (I Don't Know my Z's too well YET!)
I own a 1982 Z-28 with rear drums. It needs a lot of parts to get back in proper working order.
I can get the complete disc system for both sides for about $30.
Is it worth the time?
Will I need the Axle?
If I don't need the axle is it a better model than what is in my Z-28? I can get it for an additional $30.
I know the brake lines are not the same is there anything else I need to grab?
Thanks for any input...... Hopefully in a year or two I can share some good knowledge and experience.
Thanks again

85 is the first year for the IROC. Can't go from drums to discs without axel flange modification. You might consider a search as the topic is common. Most members will argue that the earlier discs are worthless (mine worked fine for years with the repair kit). Check the following link:

Just a couple of things, first, there were no 84 Irocs. Second your lines are standard fittings anything after 83 is metric. Those brakes have been known to be full of problems especially with the caliper sticking (any 82-89 Cast iron Delco's). You would have to modify your current rear axle for the backing plates, (which isn't too bad).

Gentlemen,
Thanks for the info. Since it's apparently not a real "UPGRADE" we'll just fix our drums.
We've got plenty of problems under the hood (see topic on engine swaps) We better just keep-it-simple on the brakes and leave well enough alone.
I wasn't sure what year it was, I couldn't recall if it said 84 or 85 on the window sticker in the junk yard.
Thanks again,
