drum brake help?

Im doing the back brakes on my TA. I bought new shoes and new drums.

I started with the passenger side. I got the new shoes on, all done in with the springs and everthing..... Then when I go to put the drum on- it just wont go. too tight.

I took the adjuster out, turned it all the way in, put it back in. The drum still wont go on. The old one is tight but does fit in, why can't i get the new ones to work?

any body got any ideas?
