my wheel cylinder moves

So recently I found that my car wouldn’t roll backwards… so in my investigation I found that the left rear tire would not spin backwards (the drive shaft is out)…. Took the tire off and drum, and realized that the front shoe had a lil play in it… I decided that there must be a broken part somewhere and that it would be best to replace all the springs and the shoes…. Took everything off and found that the wheel cylinder moves up and down and left and right… from my understanding it should stay stationary correct? Now I took a look at the retaining clip that holds the wheel cylinder in place and it still there, but I couldn’t get the best look ever because I have the car jacked up… any thoughts on this…. ?

Re: my wheel cylinder moves

the wheel cylinder should be completely stationary, look for rust or wear. if you need pics of the drum brakes just tell me and i'll give you a link or post pics up.

Re: my wheel cylinder moves

So correct me if I’m wrong but the e-brake hooks up to the front smaller shoe on the RR, and it hooks up to the larger rear shoe on the LR?

Re: my wheel cylinder moves

Well I said that wrong above… seems to me that my e-brake hooks up to the front smaller shoe on the LR, and it hooks up to the larger rear shoe on the RR? I find that very strange, I thought they were to be hooked up to the large rear shoe as well…
