Re cheap prop valve modification

The rear brakes on my Iroc do next to nothing like alot of other peoples third gens.I read of the mod by installing a stronger spring in the valve to put more pressure to the rears.Wouldn`t that restrict the pressure to the rears by requiring more pressure to overcome the stiffer spring to allow flow to the rears? Thanks for any replies.

Re: Re cheap prop valve modification

Have you ever replaced the rubber brake line on the driver rear? Are they drum or disc? Ever replaced the wheel cylinders and rebuilt the rear drums? I'd look at redoing the brakes before I'd mess with modifying the proportioning valve.

Re: Re cheap prop valve modification

When i got my iroc, the rear discs weren't functioning, They were locked up and even had some rust on the rotor from them being non-functioning for so long before i got it. The pedal would travel halfway down before the car would really start to slow down.

I got the rear brakes fixed and now it stops pretty good, Are you sure they're functioning correctly?

I assume you have discs. If the issue is at the calipers, the 'fix' kit in place, and the parking brake used every time (or nearly), I'd think all would work. Mine did and their performance was fine.

Re: Re cheap prop valve modification

The rears are disc brakes.I put new calipers and pads on and had the discs machined.Parking brake should be set correctly as it will hold the car from moving in my driveway with is sloped. There is not enough pressure to the rears so I was thinking about the spring modification.Maybe after time the original spring in the prop valve weakens and therefore there is less pressure to the rears so a new spring(or stiffer) is the solution.
