Wilwood 6 Piston Brakes

Just finished installing my new Wilwood 6 piston brakes, these are the new design calipers with the center bridge to stop caliper from walking like it did with old design

Rotor is 12.19 inches, I still run 15" wheels so I can't go larger

I bought it from streetsideauto.com , it is a special order, you order brake kit 140-11275-D and ask them to replace the calipers with the 6 pistons calipers, part numbers

Re: Wilwood 6 Piston Brakes

Nice brakes. I like the long tapered hub to help putting wheels on.

I still run 15" occasionally with some nice Bassett wheels and American Racer DOT tires.

I want Wilwoods some day.........

Wow that's awesome that they fit under a 15" wheel. 6 pistons and 12.19" of rotor.. Crazyness! What brakes did you have on the car before swapping to these?

Re: Wilwood 6 Piston Brakes

I had Aerospace Pro-Street 4 piston brakes, and they worked fine, but since my rear brakes were Wilwood and the new master cylinder is Wilwood, I figured I would change the front to match.

thanks for the heads up on the upgrade to the 6 piston calipers. I just picked up the same wildwood set you posted.. and the upgrade from the 4 piston. to the 6 piston was $86.50.total (I also got 15% off) on the new calipers..Sweet!

total set up with wildwood brake lines and upgrade $875.00 .

I forget the size of the rear..11's or 12's inch rotors they are the Factory PBR disk brakes.. with a red finish and chrome. 1 piston. with park brake. and a drilled slotted aftermarket rotor.

Re: Wilwood 6 Piston Brakes

this is a very easy mod and install.. ya need a 21/64" drill bit. and a 3/8"-24 NF Tap.
takes about 20 minto drill and tap. and 10 min with a band saw.. and the spindles are done!

will do a post with pics...im sending mine out to get plated (Gold Zink)rust prof. like I did the fist set..
pic of stock spindles zink plated

Size: 58.4 KB

ya get this zink on the parts..then do a powder coat. and if ya get a chip in the coat..it will still never rust under the coat.

Re: Wilwood 6 Piston Brakes

I have to say I did get a 2nd set of spendles to do the mod as I did not want to cut up any OE parts off my car. just me is all. I have a hard time doing any cutting of parts.. so I put up a add and picked up a set off 3rd gen..($50) shipped..

ill say I was not thinking when I paid for a set from back east...
I can say they.. pass off as Chemically Lightened..about 2 oz each...(aka) extreme rust!! after 4 days in vinegar and sand blasting
and wire wheel...and deburing.they come out like this..bare naked steel. set to plate.
(side note:untill platting.they will be sprayed with oil and wrapped in plastic bags)
Name: 20160226_134928.jpg
Views: 1193
Size: 329.4 KB
then you do the prep work removing the parts. you don't need.. then drilling and tapping..
Name: 20160226_135052.jpg
Views: 1202
Size: 350.5 KB
I set the spendles up in a drill press to make the job easy.. with a good drill bit 21/64" cut like butter. and the tapping was also easy. tap with a 3/8-24NF per wildwood.
now they have been test fit. with the caliper bracket. I wll set all the parts up on ea spindle.. then get set to have the spendles zink plated. with some other parts as well..
Quick test fit on spindle..and... sharp looking.

WOW, the vinegar and sandblasting did a great job!

I gotta try that!
By chance, do you have a pic of the stock and cut spindle side by side?
I need to do the same thing, I bought the brakes off of 572rat.

ill post sat afternoon. ill put them next to my stock units

if the rust is norm brown scale then it will work you will need a good wire brush to clean after. I used a BBQ grill brush and after that dunk them in water and baking soda mix to stop the acid from rusting when drying.. I used 5 gals of Vinegar.. spry with carb or brake clean before putting in the vinegar to remove oil and gunk. so the vinegar will do its job. or just sand blast. and wire wheel..

NOTE**Using Vinegar
when they sit in the Vinegar they will bubble and foam will form this tells you they are getting clean.. if no foam.. they still have oil on them.. when you pull them out.. they will be gray..= clean steel. the heavy rust will scrub off with wire brush..like mud.
FOAM will be over night.. but if you can blast them. it would be faster...also look close at the pic with just the spindle notice its gray looking this is from the vinegar..with a light rust showing up an hr after you pull it out....this will buff right off to a hi polish..

this set was so bad! I was thinking I could not use them... even after getting them down to a clean surface.. the pitting is bad.. but they are clean. and the gold zink will make them look better. and they will never rust a 2nd time..
back in the 50/60s guys paid for this acid dip thing to get some LBS off a car..lol now its free!

Questions:
I own a 1989 GTA which has been converted to 4th gen brakes, question is; Now that I already have the conversion can I install 4th gen 1998-2002 big brake kits made by brands like Brembo, Wilwood, etc,? Will they bolt in just like if I owned a 4th gen?
Thanks!👌

I also removed all sharp casting marks/edges. makes the parts look better. no place to get a nick and start to rust.

don't know..this one is about wilwoods brake set up...
this set up drops a tad over 38lbs from the front of the car.
every thing about the brakes are better..

but if the caliper bracket bolts up the same way. I don't see why not.

hi there. What 15” rims can you use on these? I have the same calipers and I’m having a hard time finding 15” rims to fit over these. I do have this on a g body, I have checked all the dimensions are the same. And I tried putting on the trans am snowflake rims, 15x7, and it’s not clearing the caliper.
