How do I hook up laptop to sterio?
My headunit is in the sig. I thought you needed an RCA wire from the computer to the head unit, but I checked the back of my head unit and I dont have any inputs I dont think.
I have one set that my subs are hooked up to, and my mids and highs are hooked up to the other 2 RCA's. So it looks like I have 3 RCA's, but they are all output. My head unit says you can hook up auxilary devices to it, but the instruction manual does not say anything about wiring. How might I hook it up?

well you will need to hook the laptop directly up to an amp or crossover, the head unit you have has no aux ports or input ports of any kind... you can use theis cable to hook it directly to your amp from the laptops headphone or speaker out jack... its a quick and sloppy way to do it, and you MAY get line noise doing this...

I know of three ways to get a laptop hooked into your a stereo:
1. if the head unit has a cassette deck just use a cassette to CD-player adapter you see with most portable CD Players
2. On my MP3 CD head unit I have a AUX input jack on the faceplate, all I have to do is plug a small cord between the laptop and the head unit, and your ready to go.
3. My freind bought a FM transmitter from the back of one of those science magazines and built a head phone jack adapter so he transmits the audio from the laptop to a set FM frequency.

Looking at the specs on Pioneer's website, there is no mention of your particular deck having an Aux in. Does your manual by chance cover several models of head unit? Sometimes they may be refering to certain models if the manual covers a range of different ones.
If there is no AUX jack on the face (which it appears there is not) and no jack labled on the back, then there most likely is not the option.
What you can do is get the cables shown above (1/8" mini to RCA) and get an RCA signal source switch box and run the laptop right into your amps. You would need to switch your sources via the switch box when you wanted to use one or the other as your source.

the easiest way to do it is to head to your local radioshack and pick one of these up.. sorry, i dont have a stock number for this one.. i dont remember exactly, but im pretty sure its devalued down to $20.. so they may or may not have any more in stock.. if not, theres a newer model that will work fine for like 30 bucks.. but anyway, its an fm stereo transmitter.. hooks right in to your line out on your computer (or mp3/minidisc/cd/whatever).. takes two AAA batteries, and will run for 5+ days straight on them.. its not perfect sound quality, after all it is transmitted as fm, but i find it perfectly acceptable, especially for $20.. its simple to use, convenient, and *very* portable and expandable.. oh yea, and it broadcasts in stereo or mono

when the head unit is off and I go into options it has an option to turn auxilary on or off. If it is turned on then I can switch from radio, cd, multi-cd, and aux. IT doesnt play anything in aux since nothing is hooked up, but I dont see where I would hook it up. Any thoughts?

does it have a cd changer input? i know on my kenwood theres a cd changer input, but you can also buy an adapter for like $20-$25 that adapts the changer input in to a pair of rcas, and then hookup whatevr you want.. of course then you cant use the changer.. i dont even know what brand of cd player you have, but that would be ym best guess.. if theres no changer ability on your deck, then you've got me beat..

oh, just read your sig.. a pioneer with a changer hooked up.. id be willing to bet its like kenwoods in that you can use either the cd changer *or* the auxiliary (needing an adapter) but not both.. on my kenwood its smart enough to not even let me go in to the cd changer thing unless ones plugged in, and no auxiliary function unless the adapter is hooked up and somethings connected to it..

its a pioneer headunit. So is there any way I can hook up both at the same time? It allows me to have multi-cd on aux be displayed as options similateously, but i dont know how i would hook them both up.

neat, i think.. i found an auxiliary input adapter for pioneer p-bus receivers (i think thats you?).. check this out... looks like you'd be able to retain the use of your cd changer as well! like i said, im not positive its compatible with your head unit, but.. at least pioneer can manufacture auxiliary input adapters that can still let you use your cd changer! so if this one doesnt work, therse probably one that does..
