I disagree with that statement, you can fit three 12's in there easily with the right kind of box.

you can fit 3 but you really only have airspace for 2.

I hope that you are right, but in just the hole I dont see it happening. I think you are going to have to use up some of the part above the gas tank. I will have to check it out later to see. Just like the old saying goes, "whats better than two 12s, three 12s "

that is an old saying? there ARE subs out there that dont take 1.4+ cu. ft a piece, in cases like the third gen, i would think that people would look into them.

I disagree here as well...you have enough airspace and room to fit 4 12" Type R subs in the rear well. You would have to mount 2 of them in the center facing up and 2 on the outside at an incline facing up and in.

i found the specs and the mounting depth should be enough for a normal design. i attached a file of what the top piece would look like with 3 12s. as far as the design, i wont go into that. if you want to build it yourself, you can probably find the plans somewhere on the net.

Interesting how everyone is so quick to say no and yet nobody has a pic. If you read what kristopheer asked, "in the hole" you will realize that there is no room for three 12s "in the hole" I am attatching a pic of pat12spe box. It is "in the hole" Are you guys trying to say that in the space where the hatch attatches to the car(where there is only 11.5") you are going to fit two pieces of 3/4" MDF and a 12" woofer??? I dont think you can do that. Maybe it was all that crazy learning I did in school, but 3/4+3/4+12=13.5 Does 13.5=11.5....UM......NOOOOO!

Now if you were to make the box come out of the hole(which I already said in a previous post, that I guess nobody wanted to read) you should have no problem fitting three 12s, as long as you have the air space.

Now lets recap.
Three 12s in hole, no
Three 12s in hole and out of hole, yes

Brian

When I see the pics I will shut up. But I need to see how that sucker is in there. Just straight over from the gas tank is only 11.5" on my GTA. Is it different on yours? On anyones??

I designed, but never built a box as I described above...I may have to build it now...just to prove a point! However, fitting 4 12" subs requires cutting out part of the rear plastic that is in the rear hatch area. If you are talking about doing it without modification, than I believe that 3 will still fit...you would have to make the top plate angled towards the front of the car which would give you more mounting area. I will have to measure to make sure...if correct, I will post the actual dimensions and some measurements.

That is what I have been saying, you will have to make some of the box out of the well to get three to fit. I really want to see pics, I would love to have three 12s in the well. I dont want to build a box that will go out of the well. I have done a decent amount of research on this, but if someone can prove me wrong, PLEASE DO.

That fits flush in the well? Even with the gas tank?
I took a couple of pics. The first is my hatch pull down, if a 3rdgen doesnt have the auto pull down, is it smaller?
Heres the pic

Here is the pic of the distance between the edge of the hatch pull down and the edge of the well. There is only 12" if you were to stretch it a tad.

that box I bought off another member that was closing his shop (username mathew 3:16 or somthing) anyway, it fit in my 85 Iroc that didnt have the hatch pulldown, and it barely fit when the hatch was closed, high excursion subs wouldnt work in it. I tried it when I got my 89 Iroc, that has the hatch pull down, and It wouldnt slide all the way into the well. I think its because the back is a tad wider for the hatch pulldown, but I may be wrong. I am selling it because as you can see in my sig I am going with fiberglass to save weight and because I am only going to be running one sub.
