Wiring and Speaker Issues

Hey folks, I'm still a little new to these boards (I don't post alot.. yet. I just read.) but I need alittle help her. I just bought a Pioneer DEH-4500MP and I'm having issues installign it. I've never installed a car stereo before, but I have figured out it's nothing too different from installing PC parts or setting up a home stereo.

See, my problem is this: I've found wiring diagrams that list the colors of the wires in Camaros and what they each do, and one of the mor eimportant ones is the orange wire, one of th eones that supplies power. I've looked, and I can't find an orange wire. I do have a rogue wire that's kind of separate from the rest though, it's purple with a white stripe. I'll need to take a picture perhaps, but I'll try to explain it anyway. I thought it went with a speaker but I've found all of those, they're paired up. Alos, what's making this even more annoying is I don't think I'm getting any power to these wires at all! I think a fuse is blown but I don't know which fuse it is, and I'm feelin' really stupid because I can't remember where the fuses are! <.< >.> SO maybe someone cna help me with this odd bit of wiring? I should mention that the car had no stereo when i bought it. It had a CD player that I could never get to work when I test drove it, but by the time I got to buying it, the owner had taken out the head unit to give to her son. Thanks folks! Have a nice day!

Edit: Oh! Another thing: I notice it seems that Camaros have 6x9's for rear speakers.. Um.. My car definitely does NOT have 6x9's. I haven't measured and I can't really tell by eye, but I'd guesstimate that these are like.. around 5 or 6 inches in size, but are not oval as a 6x9 would be. I wish I knew what was up with that, I'd almost say aftermarket speakers but they look horrible... Ah well, thanks folks.

you could just run a seperate power wire to the battery...with a fuse of course...then you will have no problems

the higher powered alpines "require" a seperate power wire to the batt

Hey, while you have that puppy out of the box, can you tell me what order the 8 speaker wires are in and how all of the power and remote wires are arranged on the plug?? I have a DEH-2100 thats a bit out of order.....I need help...it's a long story.

If you deal with computers, you should already have a multimeter in your repair kit.

I will back up boomin boy on that battery wire. Even CEAs MECP book says it's I good idea to do with any radio, most installers never do it, but it's still a good idea. If i could find my book, I'd tell you what gauge wire to use, maybee 12 or more (less numerically). Just slip it through a rubber gromet like where the throttle cable or hood realease cable is, no need for a drill. Running your ground straigt to the fire wall, or in this case 6" below at the transmission tunnel. Again, most installers just run a self tapper through the terminal and into the sheet metal over paint, I always expose some bare metal with my dremel and add a star washer between the terminal and the metal....That's the reason why most HUs come with the ground wire already crimped with a loop terminal, sometimes they already have the star washer with them. Put something on it to keep the connection good and the metal from rusting and your golden. Once your power is hooked up, you can check your speaker continuity or 'live test' them with the radio powered....just don't short your wires togehter or to non-speaker wires while you do this. A little trail and error...of course with some caution, or using the meter, you can get a HU working...even if all of the wires are the same color...which is the case sometimes.

I always solder every connection too, great option if you know how to solder and use the shrink tubing. I only started using wiring harnesses when I stopped being a cheapskate and realized you it's just so much easier. I still solder the stereo and adapter wiring on a bench outside the car, I use an old towel to protect the interior while I connect the speaker terminals and tap into other wires as needed. I've learned that plug-in soldering irons just don't belong inside a car, butane portables are much more fun! Have you aquired a harness yet? I think I have one in one of my tool boxes, I can mail it to you for $5 if you want it. They go for $12-$15 usually. It's just a matter of matching the colors at that point.

I hope you knocked some more $$ off of that car, no radio...what a cheapskate! they should have put something in there, a $100 pioneer...anything. I'd be #%$@* if I bought a car and the seller pulled the radio right as i bought it, unless it was a previous agreement.

some edits needed, but i'm going back to bed...

Car: 92 caddy PIMP
Engine: 4.8
Transmission: i dunno
Your fuses are on the left side of your steering wheel. You really cant miss em. And if theres one blown check the 20amps. As for wiring there SHOULD be a orange wire coming from the back of the dash that turns into a yellow wire or a connector harness. The ignition wire is red and the ground is obviously black. I could tell you what color ur speakers should be but I dont got my book on hand. Hope this helpz
