Sony explode problems??????

I have a newer sony explode cd player, it won't play cd's. I got it used from a family member. It worked great for a while and then it quit reading the cd's. I tried to clean the cd player with one of those cd player cleaners with the brushes. Didn't help. Any other suggestions.

throw the sony head unit away and look for a good alpine or clarion. Sony head untis have numerous problems almost as bad as jensen.

Sony's never ending quest to save a dime has resulted in some pretty terrible electronics in recent years. If you think their head units have reliability problems, you should read up on the new PS2s. In order to sell them $50 cheaper than they used to, they cut a MILLION corners by using massively cheaper electronics inside. The failure rate on them is staggering.

It's sad to see a company as once well respected as Sony resort to this sort of crap. I'm even afraid to buy a TV from them now, and they've always been an industry leader in that field.

well as far as car audio goes head units suck. Ive had sony 12s for a while with a sony amp and Im just tired of them I need something different. This time Ill prolly end up going with alpine type-Rs with an alpine or JBL amp.

As far as home audio sony has always been a good brand. But I wouldnt be surprised if it went downhill...

Probably the optical pickup, probably cost $110.00 to $150.00 to have it fixed. Trash it and get something better.
The ONLY things you should get from Sony, TVs and camcorders.

The only sony audio product i am happy with is my head unit but i got it form a buddy who had it in his accord and it is before the xplod line came out, i think they had good gear until the explode series came out, i liek the head unit better than the jvc in my old bird and i loved that one. I will NEVER recommend sony car audio to anyone.

Sony car audio sucks, their home electronics aren't much better. The subs end up blowing, the amps end up frying, the headunits fail...they just suck. Get something better.

I recently encountered a Sony Xplode HU which played CDs, but the CD and the CD mode only did not come through the Line Level outputs.....wtf!?

NEEDAZ, is there any good reason for this?

Re-connected the speaker level connections and all was well. The 4 channel amp I was trying to hook up was bad right out of the box.

I'm putting in another generic brand amp for this guy (his choice) I'm supposed to see him soon, since the wiring is already in. I bought a 4-ch LOC/Bose/JBL system adapter for him, just for good measure....what a shame.

So you had tuner and CD for the speaker level outputs, but tuner and no CD for the pre-amp output. Did I get this right? Did you check the amp remote wire. Sony's have two remote outputs, one for the amp (on when the radio is, and one ant. (on when the tuner is on and off if the CD is on). This one gets people all the time.
Did you check that stuff and what did you fined?

Thanks, NEEDAZ. Yes, I heard that from someone else too.

I'm pretty sure I used the blue lead which is usually the remote lead, but I may have used the antenna lead by mistake. I'll take a look at it. I do remember the amp stayed on though, so I'm not sure if that' would even be possible.

If the amp was staying on that's not the problem. Sounds like something in the deck. May be the EVTC (Electronic Volume and Tone Control) IC, or a mute problem, may be a bad connection from the CD mech. PCB to the main PCB? That's were I'd start....
