Hey guys i own a 91 firebird with a t-5 im going to be purchasing soon a dvd(deck). What i want to do is reverse the factory locations of the radio/Ac controls so my radio sits above my Ac. I looked on the forum but couldnt find anyone who's done this mod. I really want an unobstructed view of this thing if im gonna put it in my car. Any ideas comments or even if you guys "have" done it , instructions how? TIA

Just do it, turn the bezel upside down and post a pic.

I belive the 91 still uses the console that my 88 uses. While instaling my Deck I had that part of the console pulled out. I thought about trying to do this kind of mod. It would require some heavy mods to switch them up, too much for me at least. I think, to do a good job, you would need to fiberglass molds to hold the Temp controls along with some kind of support fabrication to hold the deck in. The Bezel was also a problem, it is shaped in a way that is can not be reversed. You would need to fab up a new bezel to match.

Here is what my console looks like, not sure if they are the same.

yup rydex thats what i was thinking, do you think something could be fabricated from sheet metal? keep the same shape but switch up the holes?

I've seen it done. Modifying the console and making a new trim ring is the easy part.

The hard part is extending every one of the cables on the heater controls so that it can reach the extra couple inches you need to mount it lower.

You could remake a faceplate from most anything. I think I saw a pic on this site at one time where someone replaced all the plastic faceplates with stainless steel.

I forgot about all the wires and cables you have to move. Owch.
