im almost to the point where i can seam seal and por15 it then i want to dyno matt the whole car.. im not actually using dynomatt cuz of the cost im going with another sound dampning material just most people know dynomatt and what it does so i figured it would be the easyiest way to ask.. my question is how much do i need? i wanna do my firewall complete floor from the firewall to the tail lights, up my sale panels and inside my doors.. pretty much the whole car.. yea i know it add alot of weight but it will be so worth it after my sound system is installed.. plus all the road noise and lil creaks it will get rid off.. so should i get 100 sq ft or more?? 150? 200? more.. anyone else interesed in some material maybe if i get enough interest i could get a group purchase possible?

i was hopeing u would see this post i LOVE what u did to your camaro from top to bottom.. u honestly are the one that saved mine from the scraper or sale.. it was ur rebuild that re-inspired me to do mine.. and thanks for the answer too so the 100sqft should be plenty thanks alot..

dynamat is a good product, PITA to install sometimes, strip all the interior seats, carpet, everything but the dash, id suggest using their roller for it because its a pain to apply across a large area sometimes, and WEAR GLOVES! Iv sliced my hand i dunno how many times installing it in customers cars, to give you an idea i used 36sq ft on a customers 95 izuzu rodeo, and i only did the rear seat back, and up the sides, which doesnt have a large surface area because of the windows

heres a link to hifisoundconnection, they sell audiobarrier, its the same thing as dynamat except cheaper and thicker so youll have a higher dampening level also comes with a roller, 72 sq ft will do your floors, doors damn near everything, and you can also get more if it doesnt i dont think 100 sqft will be necessary, you dont have to overlap it too much either, make sure you use something like dynamat or audio barrier that uses a butyl adhesive and NOT the asphault kind it stinks and its horrible

when you do it be sure to put some dynamat on the inside of the outer skin, like in the spare tire/ cargo area put some on those, you can pull the vents on the door frame and put some in there, when you have the door panels off and youre applying it to the doors cut out the holes and take that excess matting and stick it to the outer skin, you dont have to fully coat the outsides either just enough to reduce vibrations, make sure to clean everything with acetone or 409, something that will clean and leave no residue

final tip: as youre applying it, if theres a hole for a bolt or something look where youre gonna put it, then lay it down, smooth it with the roller and pop those holes before you move on, any place where a popit is used like the doors, pop the hole and then cut a square around it because the dynamat likes to keep the popits from fully seating, by cutting a square around it youre allowing a bit of room for the popit to re seat properly

just got rammat and its is super easy to install, no rollers or anything. That was alos its down side it stuck to eveything so when trying to stick it into the doors it would stick all the time. if you check out his site he had me get basically 2 rolls you would prolly want 2.5-3 rolls if you want to do above the headliner and every where. hes a good guy to deal with to and he seems to have a way cheaper product then dynomat but its the same if not better quality.

The only downside I've seen to ram mat is the adhesive, I prefer dynamat and audiobarrier which use a butyl rubber, there sticky but not too sticky and I pulled some rammat out of an integra the other xday to install dynamat, it left a sticky residue like really old e-tape does I'm pretty partial to butyl applications and dynamat is a helluvalot easier to install now than it used to be, we don't have to heat it up now

depends on what we're doing, its dollar for dollar on most small jobs, like doors and speakers, for a door kit if it were $200 id charge $200 to install it, speaker kit is around $25 so id charge $25 to install, now when you start getting into larger kits thats when its up to me as an installer to quote, its really a big variable but i mean bare minimum price will be dollar for dollar, and normally on top of that i base it on the car, or the person if theyre being a douche lol

the main reason for that though is because if im doing an entire car i have to rip the entire interior out and sometimes the headliner, it burns up most of my day. So yes I make a lot of labor on the dynamat but that is a chunk of time where i can turn 6 or 7 cars and make about the same, so ill do my quote based on the time its going to take, how hard its gonna be to rip out the interior, and ill over shoot it a bit to make it really worth my time, but like i tell everybody cash speaks louder than labor, im not saying to offer cash to a stranger but 90% of installers i know will take $200 cash over $600 in labor lol

Its not really a waste of time, I use it every day and I love it, HOWEVER I use it to dampen vibrations created from subwoofers, not for road noise. Ideally you would use the dynamat to dampen vibrations, you can totally cover it but its not really needed, then use dynaliner which is the foam padding that goes under the carpet to totally reduce road noise.

If someone wants to cover their car I'm not gonna tell them not to, its their car and I'm not about to butt in and tell them not to unless it risks eye life or limb

At the end of the day its still their car and it really doesn't hurt my feelings, there's a lot of stuff people should and shouldn't do who shouuld be educated, but people are going to do what they want to do, plus dynamat is an industry staple product, people are gonna use it like everyone else does, top to bottom matting lol

I used 100 sq ft. but I also did my roof, sail panels, inside and out. I did the actual outter skin. I also did door skins and door frames. I used Fatmatt. Super cheap, I am also not going for crazy sound systems. I run stock everything. My Procharger F1 is the only thing I don't want to hear all the time so I did 2 layers of dynamat on my dash and two of fattmatt on my firewall.

Sure, most people will do whatever they want to but isn't it better for the information to be there for the people who would like to make an educated decision whether it be the op or someone else just reading the thread? Just telling people to go ahead and do whatever they want really doesn't help anyone and kind of defeats the purpose of having a forum in the first place.

While that is all true you can educate people all you want, its up to them to use it, you posted a research link which will serve its purpose but we're side tracking this thread now besides dynamat has a grip on the industry that says you mat it in pieces, but more is apparently better to people and they're going to listen to a reputible company over us any day

Like I said its ultimately the owners decision
