High Quality 4x6 dash speakers?

Anyone know of some higher end speakers which drop into the dash? I have kick panels but took them out because I like my dead pedal space too much. Stockers won't cut it but the air ducts limit speaker size esp the magnet.

Thanks.

Re: High Quality 4x6 dash speakers?

Just my 2 cents but I would steer clear of all the budget conscious walmart products. I don't think I would ever go into a walmart to shop for audio equipment.

For a good set of 4x6s, check out Boston Acoustics 746 plate speakers. I dropped a set of these in and have no complaints. They go for $75 shipped a set of fleabay.

Re: High Quality 4x6 dash speakers?

Thanks guys.. looking to set my bar a little higher than walmart. I've long since grown out of the loud banging noise and into quality sound.. It's just hard to find anything good that fits in the space. Good usually means big magnet or too deep to fit.
I'll check out the Boston Acoustics and Infinity.. Anyone else know of anything that fits?

whats the difference if i buy a pioneer spearker at walmart or if i buy it at best buy.. its still a pioneer speaker.. same for there head units.. still a pioneer.. its just a different store same product. i saw the same exact speaker set i bought at walmart at best buy for 10$ more... if i buy motor oil at walmart is it ganna be different then what i would get at a shop? no probably better because most shops use a large tank that they get refilled and with walmart its all seperate bottles which i feel is safer for the sure purpose of less contamenation (sp?).. now im not saying walmart is the one stop shop for all ur auto needs but still have the same name brands that u can find at best buy or other audio stores..

You completely missed the message of my post. Yes, stores carry the same merchandise; of certain products.

The majority of the walmart audio section is geared toward budget minded enthusiasts. Someone who is 16 years old and just bought their first car will feel as if they were on the lap of luxury when they buy a $100 sony Xplod head unit and a $30 set of speakers. These products are OK for everyday use, but audiophile enthusiasts can tell a BIG difference. Durability and longetivity is also questionable.

Places like Best Buy, hhgregga and (RIP) MyerEmco have dedicated departments and usually carry much higher quality products.

BTW when shopping for equipment you want to go by the MODEL not the NAME. Every company has a quality line and a budget line.

Re: High Quality 4x6 dash speakers?

agreeing with firedemon; walmart very often will get the lower budget lines for their car audio stuff, even going so far as to have some models made specifically for them and their price point (ran into this while trying to buy a tv. one letter difference meant 2 less inputs) . the brand name may stay the same, the model #s it what you need to pay attention to.

If you're looking for deals, dig around on diyma (http://www.diymobileaudio.com/) for a bit. there's a wealth of *good* info on speakers and there's a whole subforum dedicated to car audio deals

yes i guess i did misunderstand what u ment by ur first post.. but all i was trying to say was that he was looking for better then stock speakers. and the poineers that i installed in my car sounded amazing.. i know there are better speakers out there no dout about that. and i know that when choosing sound equpiment that u have to go by model not name. i have been planing my system up grade for about 2 years now. mainly just saving the money and doing the research.. and to get that perfect sound that ur looking for it take alot of learning about the whole audio setup and making sure it all works together in "harmony" so to speak lol .. what i was trying to get across was that the speakers i installed yes they were cheap but also my stock paper speakers where shot to all hell, the pioneers sounded great nice and crisp they are mainly just for voice anyway since i installed the bass remover in the wiring to them. and they lasted and are still in perfect condition and we all know how hot it gets in our car and by the placement of the speakers they are in direct baking sunlight which pay a big toll on the speakers.. so 1 they sound great 2 they lasted and 3 they took my constant abuse.. so im satisfied with my walmart pioneer speakers.. as for when i finish my audio install will i be getting any of it from walmart.. no.. all top of the line items between my tweeters mids subs and amps, wires, and of course the touch screen full nav headunit

i will be going alpine for the head unit, kicker for the amp and subs, and pioneer for the other speakers and tweeters

Re: High Quality 4x6 dash speakers?

Some would argue that the "oval 4x6 speakers" and "high end" are exclusive items...

Note that MB Quart was bought a few years back and went from "made in Germany", to being made in china with "German engineering"... The company that use to be / make MB Quart in Germany is now Maestro.... http://www.german-maestro.de/US/index.htm
I managed to snag a set of the last MB Quarts made in Germany

Do note the model number, I've seen, cheap / more expensive models of stuff at Walmart, their line changes all the time....

Re: High Quality 4x6 dash speakers?

I know exactly where you guys are coming from with the Walmart thing. When I first bought my car that was my mentality. I almost bought a $50 set of speakers because they would have glowed blue from under the dash. The things we do our first time around...

Thanks.
You can fit 5 1/4" co-axels in the dash.

Should open up even more possibilites.

Have a look at Polk Audio

Re: High Quality 4x6 dash speakers?

just remember that rounds have clearer vibrant sound, going with Infinity Kappas 4x6 plates ( 1" & 3") round in the dash, 5" for the doors, 6" for the sale panels, 12"sub and 3 600W amps, the local Navy exchange decided not to care car auto so everything was 25% off, new in the box. big savings.

Re: High Quality 4x6 dash speakers?

ive got polk 4X6" Db's and 6X9's powered by a 120.4 db drive 4 channel amp, it sounds incredible, i wasnt too happy with the polks but now that i amplified them theyre amazing

before the amp i used to have the volume around 50 out of 60, now that theyre amped i put it up to about 35 and its deafening

If you are really into SQ, then no 4x6 will cut it. Like Project said, you can fit more normal sized speakers into the dash. I use 6.5" drivers in the dash.

Ive got polk's too (MM461). Great speakers, they really start to sound good when the volumes 2/3 full. The low volume thing should be fixed once thier amped though.

A little modification needed to fit in the drivers side, but nothing big just a little adapter.

My 2 cents is that I am quite a fan of Rockford Fosgate brand audio products. I plan on running 100% Rockford when I get me another firebird.

I used some spacers lol it drove me nuts it hits the cluster right? I just put a 4 channel db drive amp to my frontzs and rears and its a worlod of difference! If you fade to vthe front they sounjd more like tweeters but with an amp they're full range and the 6x9's put out some decent bass with minimal distortion

firebird and camaros have different heating ducts, most speaker magnets hit the ducts in a firebird, you can cut your duct out and cover it with fiberglass and resin, just clean and prep the area very good.

Re: High Quality 4x6 dash speakers?

I have 2 Boston Acoutic 4x6's in the dash, it was a little tight on one side and I had to put a washer on each mounting hole, but it still all ended up fitting and bolting together perfectly.

They sound amazing, but its been about three years since I bought them, so I can't remember the model. They ran me about $180 for both of them.

alpine type s 4x6 barely fit with the crossovers sticking out but they sound great, if anything i would focus more on the 6x9's in the back thats where most of the sound is going to come from
