No display on tape deck

I went to the local pull-a-part today and pulled a delco deck with equalizers out of a 94 blazer. I'm running a basic 91 delco deck in my bird, and like the equalizers this stereo has and want to swap. When I hook the wires up and turn the key the radio works great, but the tape deck spits out my tape adapter, not a big problem since I have wired up aux jacks to the stock units before, but I'd like to get the tape deck working anyway. Also, when I turn on my headlights I lose the stereo display, when I put my old deck back in the display is fine, so its definately in the new deck. Any ideas what might be wrong?
