Delco decks w/ aux out for MP3, who does them?
I'm wondering who does them on here. I remember seeing them a couple years ago but never did it for my old GTA. Now that I have a 94 T/A with steering wheel controls, I want to stock deck with an MP3 aux. Wondering if whoever does them on here, does them for a better price than the ebay guy (same guy perhaps?)
I have an aftermarket Kenwood deck that I can not wait to use for batting practice.

id go to your local audio shop and pick up an i simple piece, or dice, whatever they carry, if i remember correctly you were in the valley so id say hit audio express but your info is showing san diego now so find a car audio dealer
with the i simple piece you can add an AUX or an ipod cable directly to the factory deck and IIRC you wont need a SWI-JACK or SWI-RC since youre just adding to the factory setup, do some research on it it may be a cheaper/ easier alternative than replacing the whole thing

The factory deck in my 08 Saturn Vue has a built in 3.5mm jack and aux function.
Works great with my ipod.

Yeah I just moved here a few months ago. I read up on the SWi-jack and it was too technical for me. Plus I didn't have a stock stereo to mess with and I didn't want to screw something up. I actually went ahead and bought one off ebay and put it in today only to find out my steering wheel controls don't work. I found a write up on how to fix it. On the 93/94 the inner buttons melt and turn to goo and a quick fix is needed to make them operational again. We will see.
Oh, and this guy did all the hard work for me with the AUX jack. Its pretty sweet.

Swi jacks are just meant to allow an aftermarket head unit to communicate with the factory steering controls you just have to program it to do so lol if its a factory head unit then ot should be able to interface unless they changed up some stuff internally then its a toss up lol

I meant the testing and all that. Some functions won't work and I heard there is a delay when using them. And to be honest, aftermarket decks love skipping over the smallest of scratches. Delco decks, don't seem to care about scratches.

There's a guy on Ebay who does them, but I already had a radio and didn't want to spend the 100+ dollars he was asking (and getting) for them. So I took mine into an electronics shop w/printed photos of the Ebay ad. The tech said that instead of drilling an unsightly hole into the front of the radio, he could connect a 1/8 jack input to the amplifier from the rear of the radio. On the side of the radio panel (next to the accelerator/driver's right foot) I simply drilled a 1/8 hole and mounted the threaded jack with a nut. Example here:

The important thing to remember is to buy STEREO parts. Meaning, the jack and the cable (from MP3 player to jack) need to be stereo NOT mono. In general terms, if you seen one black line on the metal, it's mono. If you see two black lines on the metal, it's stereo. Stereo example below:
http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2104061
The way it works is simple. When you turn on the radio, AM/FM is the default. As soon as you insert a tape, the signal is overriden and the tape plays. Same thing with the MP3. As soon as something gets plugged into the jack, the MP3 signal begins.

Yeah, the guy on Ebay's name is Craig. He does good work. Its stereo, he had the wire coming out the back of the stereo the jack all ready to go. As soon as I plug in an iPod it will start playing it. Its refurbished, so all the buttons are good, and its the correct year (1994) for my car. It was $213 shipped. I like the way stock looks, I like the condition its in, I like the warranty he gave me, I like the the MP3 capability with a stock radio...Im happy with the money spent.
Had I bought an aftermarket radio even with the swi jack installed and ready to go, I wouldn't have been able to figure out my Steering wheel buttons don't work. I just would've assumed the SWI-jack was bogus and wasted money.
So for that, Im double glad. I just got to figure out how the tard before me, wired up the sound system. Its a rats nest behind the radio. Only the far rear speakers work.

I have a stock looking later model Delco deck in my 89 (came from a 2002 GMC/Chevy truck) which has the 9-pin auxiliary input jack on the back. The deck is a CD player which has the capability to control a slave tape deck or CD changer through the aux input jack. I connected this piece http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=347 and left it out of sight under the radio so I could play my satellite receiver through the head unit. It works on most 95-03 decks with the aux input jack.

Re: Delco decks w/ aux out for MP3, who does them?
After a day of tinkering I figured out how to do this with a stock deck. I have an aux jack running under the console and up through the ash tray. I can plug my iPhone into the aux jack, and have my mp3's playing out of my delco deck. This is definitely the way to go if you want to keep the stock appearance. I could have put the jack on the faceplate, but I like to keep it hidden when not in use.
