AC Delco 2004 GMC Safari in 1984 camaro z28

I was wondering if anybody knew where i could find out how to wire this combonation, it fits right in perfect takes up the whole 2 din (or whatever it would be) and looks pretty sharp, i know it isnt the best sounding most power unit but there's some upgraded jvc speakers so hopefully that helps i wanted to ask aswell i was reading that some people take the sail panel speakers out, im sure it would shave a few pounds what do you guys think?, there was an updated jvc head unit in when i bought the car, but i would like to switch to the AC delco CD player unit, im not sure what adapter to look for or how to wire it up, if you guys could help me out that would be great! thanks,

Well, I'm going to guess that you have the plugs for the back of the radio, including the wires.

AS you can see below, the GM Standard radio wire colors for 1984 and 2004 are the same, so just match colors and you should be good to go.

2004:
Car Radio Constant 12v+ Wire: Orange
Car Radio Switched 12v+ Wire: Yellow
Car Radio Ground Wire: Black
Car Radio Illumination Wire: Gray
Car Stereo Dimmer Wire: Brown
Car Stereo Antenna Trigger: Pink
Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Tan
Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Gray
Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Light Green
Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Dark Green
Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Brown
Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Yellow
Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Dark Blue
Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Light Blue

1984:
Car Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Orange
Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Yellow
Car Radio Ground Wire: Black
Car Radio Illumination Wire: Gray
Car Stereo Dimmer Wire: Brown
Car Stereo Antenna Trigger Wire: Pink
Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Tan
Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Gray
Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Light Green
Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Dark Green
Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Brown
Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Yellow
Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Dark Blue
Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Light Blue

Best of Luck!

Assuming your stock wiring is there.

no i dont have the stock wiring harness, there was an aftermarket JVC cd player in it. will i have to purchase a whole new wiring harness?, as it stands right now all the wires are there, there's just no connector to adapt to the 04 safari cd player, i beleive the car has an automatic antenna that extents when power is given to it, it is in its lowered posistion and im wondering if it will work as it should when i install the new radio thanks again guys

As long as you have the connector that's on the back of the Safari radio, then just follow my first post there, connect all the same colored wires together. The GMCs didn't have a power antenna, but I believe the wire is still there on the Delco radio to use it (Pink one) If the Safari radio doesn't have a Pink wire, you'd need to run the pink wire from your car's wiring to a switch. I am not sure if it's a +12V or ground that it wants though.

You don't need a specialty harness at all, it's just nice to have if your car's original connectors were intact.

Re: AC Delco 2004 GMC Safari in 1984 camaro z28

thanks for the quick reply i'll take pictures so i have a better understanding and i can show you guys whats going on, i just have all the bare wires, with no gm connector so i will have to get one that will plug into the back on the GM, and put the wires into the new connector accordingly, i wont have time to post pictures even though i took a few, that list is really helpfull but where in the connector do these wires go, you cant put a wire in the wrong place or it wont work properly.... witch pins are + or -?,

Ahh, well, yes.. You will need the Delco Connectors that go into the back of the Safari radio The wires coming out of those connectors will be the same colors as the ones in your car, then you just splice them together.

You can get the connectors out of ANY 1999-2004 GM vehicle at the junkyard.
