stereo not making sound
stereo not making sound
i just got an 88 iroc in practically mint condition. i love everything about it except for the fact that the head unit doesnt make sound. it turns on and gets signal but not playing actual sound. i just got done pulling it out and seeing if the wires were all connected properly and they were. however there were 2 wires not hooked up, but i couldnt find where they hooked in to. it was a small black connector and a white connector. anyone know whats wrong?

The radios in these cars aren't very complex.
The wire colors are as follows:
Your issue is most likely one of two things:
Bad Head Unit
Bad / Disconnected Speakers
Take a spare speaker, and touch the wires to the inside of the connector on the head unit, to say Brown and Yellow, if you get sound, your head unit is good, and the problem is your speakers.
If you get no sound, you need a new head unit.
The wire colors are as follows:
Car Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Orange
Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Yellow
Car Radio Ground Wire: Black
Car Radio Illumination Wire: Gray
Car Stereo Dimmer Wire: Brown
Car Stereo Antenna Trigger Wire: Pink
Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Tan
Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Gray
Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Light Green
Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Dark Green
Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Brown
Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Yellow
Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Dark Blue
Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Light Blue

Before I forget, I should ask if this is a BOSE system?
If not, follow the wire colors above, if it is a BOSE system, there is a heck of a lot more involved, and I've never dealt with them.

Re: stereo not making sound
Check to see if there are speakers in the car and make sure that the prev owner didnt just put them in (speakers) without hooking them up
