Boston Pros vs. JL w's

Ive been looking into a good sub (single 12) to replace the two 10" MTX's ive had for a few years, since they no longer satisfy my desire for SQ. I was gung-ho on Bostons for a while but I've recently been thinking about JL's, probably a W3 or W6. I would like to know if anyone has gone through a similar comparison and what they found out/decided. Would also like to hear opinions from anyone owning any of these subs. One thing that keeps my mind tilting towards boston still is thier write up on the benefeits of a 2 ohm woofer, stating that the windings in the coil are thicker and the sub overall can handle more power, as opposed to other configurations, including dual 4 ohm coils. anyway, what do you guys think??

Personally, I swtched to JL about 2 years ago and I'm probably never going to use anything else. With their quality, and numerous models and configurations, you can always find something that will work. If Boston makes a 2 ohm woofer that handles an amazing 200watts RMS, and JL makes a dual 4 ohm that handles 300watts RMS, which one handles more power? The only advantage I've ever seen about dual versus single voice coil configuration is wiring options. JL dealers will tell you that the subs can handle much more than their rated amount, and they're not kidding! My vote goes with JL. (if you couldn't tell)

My vote is for the Boston Pros. I have never heard a better subwoofer than those (in my opinion anyway). I had to of the 12" 2ohm Pros...until they got ripped off. I have never seen a sub so starving for power either. I was feeding each one of mine 600+ watts rms and they were not even breaking a sweat. The Pros can handle 1200+ watts of power. Actually, Boston recommends up to 1200 watts of amplifier power, but they will handle more than that. They are also very clear sounding, which was important to me. Go take a look at them and compare the two different ones you want. I don't know what the JL's cost, but I know that the $300 I shelled out for each Boston Pro was worth every penny. Good luck.

Matt

If you can manage $650 on a single 12", get the JL W7.
The Boston Pros are good for the price, but don't overlook the Eclipse ALUMINUM 8800 12 for around $280. That would be a hard choice for me to make..

If you are looking to save a little $$$, Check out - A/D/S 312RS.2, Infinity Perfect 12.1, JL 12w6, and Soundstream EXACT12. All good subs for around $200.

Don't go W6, they are way overrated and I am a JL guy. I just traded in my W0's in on W3's and I love them. I'd take my W3's over w6's anyday. As far as the W7, I would not buy them yet, they are not performing the way JL wanted them to, and are about to be redone. The W7 is way to much money for the way they perform. But they are a bad *** sub, W6's are nice, but think are overrated. Get a W3 with a nice amp. As far as Dual versus Single Voice Coil, it allows the sub to stay cooler (since one coil isn't getting all the power, 2 are) and better wiring flexibility.
