What Carb should I be running

First I just read the post that is a little down from this one about the 600 Eld. carb, and mine is acting the same way. The carb seems to be way to rich especialy at idle and also blows smoke when you put your foot in it. The carb has been jetted down once already but you folks think it needs to go more uh!. I guess I'll have to look into that. Now to my other question,I have had alot of different conversations with people about how big that I should be running. The motor is a 355 with(vortec heads, full length headers, flat top pistons,Preformer RPM man.,high preformance ignition,Comp 268 extreme cam 224/230 at 50 477/480 lift) As I had said before the motor has a 600 Carter Comp. carb on it right now and the motor seems to run well(13.82et./101.33mph at 106 degrees and 500ft. air)its about 9.7 to 1 compression. I live in Arizona. But the car at the top end has always seemed to be choked off or something just like it wants to run harder but can't. Do you folks think that I may be under carberated and do you think that a 750cfm. would help me out? I just recently put the 268 cam in it and wonder if I just need a little more carb. I know that it is rare to get just what you want but I have put alot of $$ in this thing and just want to get all I can out of it, as well as get rid of this smoke problem. Any coments anyone has will be greatly appreciated. Thanks NORT

I would not run less than a 650 CFM on a 355... I would definitely recommend 750, just to keep from upping the carb size every time you increase the performance... at 750 you should experience no problems and better top end performance...

(but I'm a cheap *** and I don't go 112... don't think I do...)

I'd go 700-750 cfm for sure. My 383 has an Edelbrock 750 cfm carb and I may be going to a Holley 750 double pumper to get all the top end out of the motor like you desire. I may be interested in selling the Edelbrock carb if you want it. I live in Tucson, AZ. You can see the car run with it if you like. The carb has about 5,500 miles on it and I have alot of jets and rods and such.
