Edelbrock 1406 vc. QJet on 305 with 700R4
Hi all,
Well, the old QJet is gone and I now have an Edelbrock 1406 600 cfm carb. We have tuned the primary jets and rods with .098 jets and I'm not sure of the rods.
This carb REALLY hauls off the line with a capital "H"!!!
But its secondary performance is definitely lacking in comparison to the QJet's. I believe I have something like .108 jets in the secondaries.
Has anybody been able to get that neck snapping crack off the secondaries of their 1406 that compares favourably to a QJet's???
How have you done it? Please state the jets and rods that you used and all other details.
Many thanks, gurus!
PS Seems to use more gas than the old QJet, but maybe I'm just putting my foot into it more?

i do have a 1406 edelbrock on my babe and yes it rocks like Hell, (only mine is 5-speed)
the original jetting is 98 for primary and 95 for secondary, it can be reviewed at the edelbrock site...www.edelbrock.com , carburators and click on the square bore section, there you'll find the specs for the 1406 (checked myself)
a helluva lot of info 'bout your carb, very good and murphy proof.
Fernando.

i also know what your talking about i came from q jet to a 1406 and it lacks that secondary power of the q jet. i just got a 1407 to fix the prob but you need to see if your engine will handle it if you think about getting one.

I don't think you can get "neck snapping" anything out of an LG4 with a 700R4, but my friend has a 1406 on top of an orginal LG4 and it runs best with the original jets and rods.
