wierd carb recomendation.....
been looking into the demon carbs here recently and i asked the tech guys at jegs and summit about which one they recomended. well 2 techs at both places recomended the same exact carbs.......either the mighty demon 750cfm or the speed demon 850 man i thought that was just huge amounts of carb. i got a 9.5:1, 6" rod 383 with world 200cc heads with 2.02/1.60s, single plane weiand intake, and my cam specs are solid lift: .493/.512, durration @ .050 is 257/269 and a 112lsa.
what are your comments on this?
i have a 750 edelbrock on it right now and it behaves quite well but i am just lookin for more 'oomph' out of it and i have talked to guys at the track that said they saw a pretty nice gain just by doing the same swap. and i can maybe see why they recomend those carbs because i got that cam straight from GM and it is a direct replacement for the cam that went in the 302's that raced the trans am circuit supposedly (same thing as crane cam's blueprint muscle car cam for the "off road special") and those cars were runnin 780 holleys on the street cars with 302's. maybe they are right about the 850 demon?????

I had something close to that 60's 302 - .060" over 327 block, 283 crank, 12.5:1 compression, 2.02/1.60 angle plug heads (LT1), LT1 solid cam, Torquer intake. Everybody told me the 3310 780 CFM (at the time) VS carb was more than it needed.
Probably true. I put it on in place of a 600 CFM DP. Only advantage of the 780 was it didn't fall on its face quite as bad if punched when RPMs were below 2500, and it got better gas mileage than the 600 did. But, those were due to VS and jetting, not the difference in size.
The Demon would probably work better. I doubt you'll ever "need" the flow of the 850. But, either would probably perform a little better than the Edelbrock. Don't expect a big change in ET or trap speed, though.
