Dumb Question Regarding Air Valve?

When the tech articles state to adjust the air valve, I can locate the screw and that. I assume the 'air valve' is the big flap on top of the secondaries?

And I adjust the screw until it snaps shut on it's on, leave it, drive it for a bit, and if it bogs off the line it's wrong right?

The reason I'm asking is because I did this and assumed the flaps were the 'air valve'. I don't know why, but now I have a bit more wheelspin off of the line it seems (I know, might be all in my head).

I g-teched my car before, got a best of 15.71 @ 92.5MPH. Now I get a 15.9x @ 91.6MPH. On my runs before, after playing with the G-Tech, I realized wheel spin was bringing the times up. When I do my runs now, to get my best results I just punch the gas (no brake torque). The conditions on the runs were not idential (10-15 deg. Celsius difference), so I'll need to do more testing. I'm thinking my times went up because of increased wheel spin?

Yes, that is the air valve.

Adjust it so that it has about 5/8 turn of tension. That is, loosen the set screw, let the blades go slack, tighten them until they just get held closed by the spring, then 5/8 turn more, and tighten the set screw. Experimant from there for best results (best power, with no Quadra-Bog)

So undertightening will give me a bog, and overtightening will make my secondaries take longer to open, correct? Will the bog be easier noticeable when I step on it?

And the 'set screw' is the one behind (that takes a flat blade screwdriver) the metal piece that the air valve rod sits on?

The air valve has two screws. The flat bladed screw is the adjustment.

The set screw is screwed in from underneath in the same area. It's a small (T-10 I think) Torx screw.

I've had best results at tightening it with a 1/4" wrench and a screwdriver bit.

So I adjust it using the 'set screw'? If so, then what is the adjustment screw for?

No, the set screw is what HOLDS the adjustment.

Loosen set screw, tighten the adjustment screw, tighten set screw or it WILL loosen by itself.

And the set screw is going to be something underneath I'm basically going to have to feel around for (since I won't be able to see it with the carb on)?

Pretty much. Or get a small dentist's mirror...

I know where it is and even I have trouble finding it sometimes.

I think I saw one of those in a flyer in the paper for like $2, I think I'll pick that up..

So is the purpose of the set screw to hold the adjustment screw in place (Like it screws up against the adjustment screw)? I don't have a blow-up diagram of the carb, but I'm curious as to it's function...
