Finishing Disassy. of my Holley for rebuild. Couple q's.
Howdy,
The carb is a Holley 600cfm mechanical second. (double pumper), list #4776. I'm pulling it apart so that I can clean and rebuild it with the Trick kit I bought.
Here are my q's:
1)Does the little needle that sits under the "accelerator-pump squirter screw" (the screw that sits in between the venturies, looking at the carb from above) have to go back INTO the carb pointy-end DOWN or UP?
2)My carb has no check valve underneath the accelerator pump cover. Just a little ball-bearing and a strap over top of the ball bearing (to keep it in it's bore). My Trick kit comes with no new check valve (although it does have a new ball bearing). I'm assuming this means that I shouldn't worry about it. Am I right?
3)I don't have access to compressed air. I understand that it's necessary to blow out the little passages. Is there anything I could do, instead of use compressed air, to clean out the passages?
4)There's no difference between primary and secondary float bowls and metering plates on my carb, right? Keep in mind it's a double pumper. I mixed the bowls and plates up, and I can't really see any differences.
Thanks lots for your answers. Feel free to answer as many questions as you can.

1) Pointy end down...
2) As long as it's clean, your fine.
3) Even though I do have a compressor, I prefer to use the little cans of compressed air that you find at OfficeMax or CompUSA. You can also use Gumout or something to that effect.
4) With a (4) corner idle system the metering block are the same. Even uses a secondary PV. If you do not have (4) corner than the block with idle adjustments goes on the primary. (sound like that’s what your eluding to on your second message)
As far as the float bowls, it doesn't matter. In fact unless all four of the fuel feeds have threads (Normally only two have threads), & your feeding her on the passenger side, you would only be able to install them one way.
Those are my answers, did I pass???

OK, one more question.
On my metering plates, I have this flat plastic tube thing. Its about .5" wide by ~2.5" long, and it's hollow. One per metering plate, and I'm thinking it's some sort of vent. It's also a little broken. Can I remove this thing?

You can remove it, however it's really an upgrade that prevents fuel from sloshing out of the vent on acceleration & hard braking.
BTW: It's called a 'Vent Whistle', Holley Part #: 26-40. Summit Racing has them for $6.95 each, Part#: HLY-26-40.
If you have anymore questions, just keep on asking .
