Which make of carb, Holly, or Edelbrock, or someone else? Which would perform the best, and which would be the most durable. I'm not wanting it to break the second i use it, :-P.

thats a hard Q, im leaning toward Holley because of the price factoid! but are they good??? im looking at the street avenger, anyone know if they do a electric choke + manual sec , around 600cfm?

hey 305sbc, that eldelbrock look fairly easy to adjust, but how well is the reasemlby after the float adjust? i heard holley floats are ajustable without opening the carb?

i'm completely, COMPLETELY new to carbs.... but... all i know is taht i want two 850 cfm's... cuz.. well... that's a good well rounded # and price... my father knows carbs, i don't, and he doesn't really know how to explain them w/o one being in his hands....

could one of you explain what your talking about w/ float?

I get the choke part, what..anything doesn't have a choke, lol.

But.. ya... i'm leaning more towards holley as well, and edelbrock for heads... i've heard they make kickbutt heads... i've also heard you could get some decent power from dart pro 1 head's... i duno tho... i don't know my stuff.... but i'm trying to learn.

Personally I like the quality of Demon carbs a bit better after having run a Holley Avenger. Both are easy to tune and work on. The float adjustment on a Holley/Demon can be done without taking the carb apart. It's a lock screw and nut that you turn to raise or lower the float level. By the way, ummm why two 850 CFM carbs? Do you have a monster engine or something? That's way overkill if you're just doing up a mild small block or big block. The engine that I've got in the works is going to have the same 750 cfm I'm running now and it'll be putting out close to 500 hp. Dart Pro 1 heads are good, I went with AFR 195 heads though Another good head is the ProTopline heads, they're getting more and more popular.

383 stroker w/ 500 or 550 base hp, possibly weiand blower.

A single 750 will be just fine with that set-up. A single 850 would probably work too.
It's hard to look at carbs for durability, because if you buy a new one it will last a long, long time. Unless you abuse it(like using a hammer on it or something), in which case any carb will fail. If it was me(and it's not), I would get a demon. The demon has Holley functionality and seems to be put together well. Me, I still run a holley carb--it's always worked great for me. But it's what I'm used to so I'm biased.

I think an 850cfm would be fine for 550hp base,
but if you run 6 lb of boost you'll need between 1200 & 1300cfm
so a couple of 600's or 650's would work well.


What's best for you could end up being the carb that you're most comfortable working on and easiest for you to tune.

Demons & BG carbs are very good quality, but a bit pricey.
You could get a couple of Carters or Holleys used for well under $200.
I'd go with what you feel better about working on.

hmm, cool, thanks for the info, i'll probably do holley carbs, cuz... i feel they know their stuff when it comes to air intake, just... it's who i always hear about when i hear "carb"... same with demon.

I'll base my efforts on demon, holley, and edelbrock, and whoever is cheapest, i'll get.
