CARBURETORS or INJECTION?

Big question i want to know peoples opinions. We All know that every car has potential no matter what it is. But what do ya'll think is better CARB OR INJECT. I think that if you are looking for a certain kind of power or a certain set up or course that is a prefernce but hey..i'd love to hear ya'lls opinions.

For a track car or a speed project my vote is for carburetor.
Less money in the induction system means more money to go to other speed parts. I think that carb is much more reliable because there are much fewer parts & less electronics involved.

If money is (really) not an object, then I vote for user programmable injection. Speed this way is a lot more work and requires much more money for custom parts. The end result is a little more adjustability and better fuel atomization.

i agree completly with 305 sbc. i am goin to a carb setup but only because it is way cheaper and i dont drive my car everyday so i dont really need the gas mileage and reliability. it takes a lot of money to get enough air to a high horse power moter via fuel injection.

I'd go with a carb setup unless... you are running a centrifugal supercharger, want great gas mileage, can't tune a carb for ****, or want to spend lots of money on FI. For everything else I would use a carb. They're cheap and when tuned properly will pul down good mileage. If you're going with a carb, you might as well go with a good one too, like a Demon or Holley. (I don't really care for Edelbrock)

What about a Q-Jet? I've got TBI now, but for a 383, I'm leaning toward a Q-Jet I have. What are the advantages/disadvantages of a Q-Jet compared to, say, a Holley or another carb?

You definitely won't want that TBI for a 383, it has a hard time staying up with a modded 350. Qjets are good carbs, but I don't really care for them, I prefer my Holley. With some work and tuning though they can knock down very good mileage (if you can stay out of the secondaries) since the primaries are so smal, and it can make almost as much power as a Holley. Read the tech articles about the Qjet and you will know what needs to be done.

Check my sig and see what an untuned 2bbl tbi on a 383 can do.

However, I chose to stay with tbi for a number of reasons that fit what I needed. Still not making the numbers my engine is capable of, do to the 2bbl TBI-but really not bad for 480cfm at 1.5" hg. A 900cfm 4bbl tbi will cure that problem though.

However, I would recommend a carb for the easiest and quickest route to power. Unless you are willing to spend a lot of time, do a lot of research, like computers, and spend a little extra money. I'm sure I would have reached my engines potential by now if I would have slapped a 750 holley dp on there. Carb is proven and will save many headaches. My project has taken time and has lead to much frustration at times, but the final product will pay off. Now if I had a second third gen w/ a 383 you can bet I would throw a carb on it while working my current FI project.

IMO, If you just want to make power, FI complicates things.
