1987 Firebird Formula Question

Hi, I ran into low mile 1987 Firebird Formula. It is a carbureted model with the 305 v8. I was curious as to if this model has only the mechanical fuel pump. I am looking to avoid any car that has the electric fuel pump in the tank as when it goes out it creates a huge problem. Did the 1987 carbureted cars have only a mechanical fuel pump or did they also have an electric one in the tank as well. I remember reading that they put both electrical and mechanical fuel pumps in some models.

Re: 1987 Firebird Formula Question

I believe there is a low pressure pump in the tank. The only years that had nothing in the tank were LG4 82-84 cars.

some early HO cars had no in tank pump but I believe most of them had it.

Re: 1987 Firebird Formula Question

To prevent fuel vapor lock, the LG4 had both mechanical and electric fuel pump in ‘87.
