Carb Fuel Economy
Im currently running a 454, overbored to 461, a 4spd B&W, a 770 street avenger and 3.73's. im going thru a quarter tank a day. It's starting to bother me. does anyone know what kind of carb i could put on my car that would drop down the petrol consumption? i heard edelbrock was better for economy over holley. i just wanna get a decent carb that wouldn't kill my performance too much, yet give me better mileage. I already have true duals, and K&N, that didnt make much of a difference.

holley, or any mechanical 4 barrel will have worse mileage then a vacuum secondaries. That said, with your manual trans, the mechanical secondaries have better throttle response. (i'm not sure how much better really.)
Not to sound like a broken record, but a quadrajet is a good carb for what you want. It's a somewhat complex carb, such that the primary system is small, so at cruise, you get better MPG, and when you stomp it, you open the big ol' secondaries and get your power. Beauty is, you can snag these at junkyards for a song, and get parts at any parts store, not just speed shops that carry high perf stuff.
Other choices are your edelbrock vacuum secondary stuff.

Ok, I'll make the joke. 461 and fuel economy don't belong in the same sentence, unless the word "bad" is used.
It's kind of hard to judge whether 1/4 tank per day is "bad" when you give no indication of how many miles you're doing or what kind of driving you've got. Honestly, unless you're in the single digits for fuel economy, I don't think there's that much improvement to be had in the engine. 3.73s, a 4speed, and a BBC are not what I would call a "good mileage" combo.
That said, why not give us an idea how many miles you're going per day that you're using 1/4 tank? If we knew that you were getting 5mpg, as opposed to 12mpg, then we might have an idea that there's a real problem.
One other thing with regards to the QJet idea--I'm as much of a QJet lover as some of the others on this board (I don't have a single car with any other kind of carb), but it doesn't match as well to a manual transmission as it does an auto. I've had a lot of trouble "out shifting" the air-valve in the past, and have found that I only tend to get good 1/4 mile performance when powershifting. Not sure that's a good idea behind a 461
