computer controlled ignition

If i just unplug my tbi and slap a carb on is it possible to keep the spark advance computer controlled. Will I run into any problems like a check engine light?

Well, a 4-bbl carb won't fit well on a TBI intake manifold. I'd suggest at least putting on a carb intake manifold.

It has been speculated on this Board that you could put on an external throttle position sensor and as long as all of the other sensors are still in place, the ECM would continue to do its thing. However, that was with respect to replacing a computer controlled carb, and I don't know what all the TBI ECM expects from the TB itself.

Certainly the easiest route would be to do a non-computerized distributor. You'd have to make some alteration for torque converter clutch lock-up as well, but that's probably easier than the external TPS.

Here's one of the discussions of the external TPS (the later part of the thread) https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/carb...me-before.html .
