for a little history... my 88 camaro was originally a TBI car, that was swapped for a TPI, and now its going carb'd

when i did the TPI swap i swapped in the bigger TPI fuel pump and now i have the mallaroy 3 port regulator to use with the carb and it actually works good.

on the instructions for the 3 port regulator it says the return line should be equal to or larger then the intake line, my factory return line is one size smaller! if i pinch the fuel line going to the carb and release fuel as needed it wont flood, but if i leave it alone it will flood.

this leads me to believe that the return line isnt big enough and its backing up into the carb inlet line. this happens even with the regulator turned down to 2PSI.

now ive come up with 2 possible solutions

- climb underneath by the tank and swap the inlet and return lines by the tank and again up by the regulator, this way the inlet is the smaller line and the return is the larger line. i just hope that it doesnt hurt the pump

- get a lower PSI pump that is for a TBI motor and swap it in.... obviously more work tho...

please help im stuck here!

are you runnin a bypass style fuel pressure reulator? and if so what is your fuel pressure set at?

The stock return line is fine. The pump isn't going to overwhelm a 5/16" line (as long as it isn't restricted, as in bent or smashed or plugged).

Where is your pressure gage located?

ahh ok awesome ill try switching the lines when i get home from vacation then!

the guage is just after the regulator... followed by a filter, then the carb

What carb did you put on?

If it floods regardless of pressure setting, it isn't the pressure that's causing the flooding. Most likely you've got a small leak in the float needle/seat.

Hey dude, I just had the same problem with my car. five7Kid is on the right track, he metioned it might be a whole in the float....my problem was, I put a new carb, fuel pump (electrical external). My carb kept flooding also so I added a fuel pressure regulator....still flooded so I took the electical pump off and put the mechanical pump back on with out the pressure regulator...still flooded....next thing I did was take the top end of my carb (edelbrock 600) off and examine it....guess what? my needle valve to my float was stuck open, there was a little debris/dirt or contaminants from old fuel keeping it from going down and plugging the hole. In other words the floats on a carb work the same as the float in your toilet bowl tank, once the bowl is full the float rises and cuts off the water supply to the tank. In the carb the float rises which seats the needle valve (blocks hole) to cut off fuel to the carb-when the carb requires more fuel the float drops. This lifts the needle valve (opening the hole) to supply more fuel to the carb. So it seems your problem is fuel is not shutting off, no matter how much fuel pressure there is the floats will only let the float bowls take so much, if the needle valves aren't seating it will FLOOD!!!. Next step is to go to your neighborhood auto parts store and buy you some Berrymans Parts/Carb cleaner and soak your carb and rebuild it. Elelbrocks are a hell of a lot easier than a Holley to rebuild. Anyway I rebuilt my carb, installed it and it cranked right up, flooding problem taken care of. Hope this helps, Later

well i just checked... played with the float settings, nothing changed, pulled the top of the carb off... one float fulllll of gas. i guess thatd casue it not to "float" and shut down the fuel!
guess ill be ordering new floats...yay
