Some misc Qjet questions

When I got my car it didn't have the Idle Stop Solenoid, so I bought a new one at Autozone. Problem is I don't have the mounting screws. Anyone know what the thread is? Are they special in any way, it looks like the head should a wide taper to seat it?

The new solenoid doesn't seem to be adjustable, I thought that I'd be able to turn the stop to adjust. Is it supposed to be adjustable?

I can't find a throttle bracket for the Quadrajet, does anyone make one, or do I need to fab one up? This spring I'm going to be installing a blower and the stock piece one won't fit.

What secondary rods are you guys running? I bought the AK rods from the ZZ4 HO kit, but when I installed my WBO2 I'm getting something like an A/F of 9:1 at WOT. I can also feel it go flat at WOT, so I'm going to try the next size up, AY rods from Edelbrock.

Re: Some misc Qjet questions

Hi Jamon, The idle stop is also connected to the ECM. I'm not sure exactly for what, but I think its engaged at startup and deceleration.

I did adjust the air flap tension as in the tech article section and the Haynes manual, but its worth another check.

Hey, I just got done messing with my Quaddy....Ticked me off too...

Anyways The sensor on top is for the mixture, the sensor on the side is what kicks up the RPMs When u turn on your A/c
No, your Idle air is not adjustable it's strictly computer controlled.

I have an extra mounting plate (for the throttle bracket) and those screws your talking about I'll sell cheap plus shipping. PM me if your intrested.

Does the bracket mount to the carb bolt or the intake? Do you have pics of that and the screws?

The idle solenoid should be adjustable. There is a hex head on the end of the plunger so it can be turned in or out to set the solenoid energized idle speed.

Re: Some misc Qjet questions

you should be able to rob a bracket and screws off a car in the JY. Thats a common part. Looks for an '80s oldsmobile with AC (common!).
Definately should be adjustable. Is it a hex head stud that comes out of this solenoid that you have? ie. visually similar to stock?

9:1 does sound very rich. You have a cc-qjet eh? Try locking out your secondaries, and just run the primaries. See what mixture you get.
If ok, then open up the secondaries and check again. If only rich with secondaries, then play with flap tension, and hanger/rod combos.

Re: Some misc Qjet questions

Hey Sonix, How are ya.

The solenoid has a hex head, but didn't turn easily, but I'll try it again.

The primaries are tuned perfect. I'm using a WBO2 gauge to tune this thing. I also passed emissions (wooo!). It starts to go very rich near WOT, but I believe the AK rods from GM are way too rich.

Ok, air valve tension will let it come in later. Same with hanger. If it still goes rich, just later in the RPM band, then lean out the secondary rods.

I'm assuming you mean the Idle air where does that bolt to? Any of the ones I've seen bolt to the Body of the carb, Which Mine does. The camera's Not available right now but I can try and get a Picture tommorow, If still needed.

Hey its no problem thats how we learn. I just needed a reality check. I think the Autozone part is just a cheapy, thats probably why it won't adjust.

When you said bracket, did you mean throttle cable bracket or idle stop solenoid bracket? I'm looking for a throttle cable bracket that installs on the carb rather than the manifold. I also wanted to see what the screws look like that bolt the solenoid to the carb.

Re: Some misc Qjet questions

Ok turns out the solenoid does adjust. Just have to turn the hex. I didn't crank on it too hard for fear of breaking it. Now just need the right screws, anyone know what thread to buy?

The screws have a tapered head on them. I don't know size or thread, but I bet if you got a hold of these guys http://www.carburetion.com/parts.htm , they can take care of you. Their email address is at the bottom.
