Carb, Intake recommendation & Distributor question

I'm getting a rebuilt 350 w/ large cam & TPI. I like TPI but I'm changing this car to carb. Anyways, I plan on using a Wieand Stealth 8170 intake, Holley 0-80783C (4150 650CFM w/ electric choke, vacuum), and if I understand correctly I must get a new distributor.

Does this look like a decent setup for street?

And if so can I use a distributor from a 305 w/ TBI? OR should I get a new GM 1104067 or will any old distributor work? I heard I can not use the same distributor that is on there w/ the TPI..

Re: Carb, Intake recommendation & Distributor question

you need a non-computer controlled HEI distributor with vacuum advance - the dizzy from the TBI car won't work. You can grab an Accel off the shelf brand new at AutoZone for $100.

Speaking of the Zone - you ever go to the cruise ins at the Zone in Pittsboro? (I'm in Cary)

Cool, thx, I'll get in the zone! No, I've seen people hanging out there @ the zone, but my 90 never ran right so I usually left it at home- depressing... I'm usually cruisin Pittsboro in my S10..

How "large"?

Wouldn't be my choice. I have no love lost for vacuum secondary carbs.

Need more details about the cam, what transmission (torque converter stall if automatic), gears, what kind of street driving you're talking about (daily commuting, cruise night, etc.).

Honestly I don't know much about cams but it the cam is a Comp XE268H - 268/280 .477/.480 114cl. Stall converter, maybe a 2500-3000, not sure, not stock, got it w/ a professionally built 700R4, rearend is the stock 2.73open.

There is vacuum secondary and then there is double pumper (mechanical), correct? I'm no carb expert buy I used to have a Holley 650 and really liked it, trying to get the same one again- it was not a double pumper..

Re: Carb, Intake recommendation & Distributor question

Also it seems the Weiand 8170 is a decent dual plane intake that will fit an 87> 350, does this seem correct?

I'll only be taking it out once in a while, few times each month, I do not care about MPG.

Re: Carb, Intake recommendation & Distributor question

Do I use the stock coil with the hei distributor still? Also I'm on the same boat with not really knowing anything about carbs. I plan on puttin a heads, cam, and headers on my car in the future and I dont want to replace the carb, wut would be a good choice for me to get? This is my daily driver and I also race it too.

Thanks

Re: Carb, Intake recommendation & Distributor question

Does anyone have anything against the Wieand Stealth 8170 intake? I am about to order it. I think it is the dual plane intake that I need. It is going on an '87 350 block w/ a Holley on top.

Re: Carb, Intake recommendation & Distributor question

I've always been a big fan of the Edelbrock Performer RPM intake. I don't know much about the Wieand stuff, I always use the Performer RPM. It's a little more expensive though.

I'll buy you the Wieand in exchange for the TPI off the engine.

Looks like the one you could use. On my setup i went with accel distributor vacuum advance. with a edlebrock peformer intake. As i read that it sounds like the same one just different name.
