Carb hydrolocked engine with fuel
Hey Guys,
Had a weird problem today. I have a well built 400 sbc with a pile of turd ebay holly 750 carb.
I have a mallory 4309 regulator which has been leaking forever, so I finally jb welded the f**ker and went to AN fittings with braied lines. doesnt leak any more . Definatly the way to go.
So it starts up fine but is running kinda rough. I shut it down and start looking around a bit, then i go to restart it, and it turns for a sec and clicks, and i KNOW the battery isnt dead. So Im like, oh ****. I pull out each plug one by one, fuel POURS out of the number 6 cylinder!
So I have never in my life seen this before, guessing the carb is messed up somehow. BTW i watched the pressure gague when the fuel pump was one, and it was around 6-7 psi. A little high but shouldnt be a problem right?
Anyways, I would be curious to know how the hell this would happen and how i should go about fixing it.

6-7 psi is perfectly normal for that carb. You need to make sure the floats are set correctly because it sounds like they're set too high. That will cause fuel to run out of the boosters and flood the engine. Or there might be a problem with the needle and seats, either not sealing 'cause they're old or just have some junk stuck in there. Have a look through the stickies at the top of this forum, plenty of info there to get you fixed up. Or you could go to Holley's site which has the manual for the carb plus a tech section.

Re: Carb hydrolocked engine with fuel
Either fuel level is too high, needle & seat are bad or you have a bad metering block gasket. That's a lot of fuel to lock one up....
