yes. just dont cut out the sender wires. i went from tbi to carb and all my gauges work. just leave the ecm in there and remove most of the wiring just going to it.

ECM may have to be in place to control speedo on a TPI car - it's a point I've never seen a definite yes/no answer on. You could unplug ECM after your swap and see for yourself if speedo works without it or not. On the TBI cars, there's no need to keep the ECM at all, unless there's a way to retain TC lockup function utilizing it.
Alot of folks take the complete pass side harness out as a whole unit - especially the TPI folks since TPI harnesses are wanted by others. I was TBI - I just left harness intact in my car, tucked it in the fenderwell, and on occasion make use of having cabin-to-underhood in place so I don't have to drill firewall holes.

Thats the same reason I am going carb, glad you asked the question I was wondering about the speedo too. Looks like we have 1500 reasons to go carb.

If its just a rebuilt 350 without much performance upgrade, you can reuse the stock TPI. If its even mildly built, the TPI wont keep up. And as long as you have a cable driven speedo itll be fine. If its electric, youll need the VSS buffer box out of a TBI car for it to work.
