Car: 89 Camaro RS Convertible
Engine: 355 chevy power
Transmission: 5 speed manual
Axle/Gears: standard
do i need the return line for a carb'ed motor

Just as the sub says i have a 350 in my 89 camaro. nothing special b ored .30 over and whatnot .488 lift comp cam. but im trying to figure out if i need the return line for the fuel pump. can i cap it off? will it make my engine run like crap? im not planning on using it any time soon..and it made my regulator run at 3psi instead of 6 when i had the return line hooked up and i couldnt change the psi

If using the in tank fuel pump, you HAVE to use the return line, and use a return-style fuel pressure regulator like the Mallory 4309.

If you're running the original pump for fuel injection then you do need a return otherwise your pump will burn out. Depending on what injection style you had it would be around the 30 psi mark but a carb only needs about 5-9 psi depending on your setup.
