Car: 91 Camaro RS, 84 2.8 5speed
Engine: 305 5.0L
Transmission: Auto, 5 speed
Need help with a fuel pump...
My Auto Zone electric fuel pump went out finally(was making pulsing noises since i got it, and when accelerated too high, it gave out) Now im looking at O'reileys pumps. They have some called Rotary Vane, and they have normal ones like i had, only different brand.
Are rotary vane pumps good? If so, what would fit my car the best? a 6v or 12v? I have a 91 RS carbed 305. Thanks in advance.
Oooh also, where is the best place to mount a elec. fuel pump? mines right under the fuel tank, i can see the bolt holding it is i fold the drivers side back seat(when I got the car it was located in the engine bay, but that caused problems). Also i do not have a return line, do i have to have one???

The best place for the pump is in the tank, where the factory put it.
If you put one in the best place, yes, you will need a return line.

First, You can't use a 6v pump. The mounting position being below the tank is correct, This causes a siphon effect once the pump starts. These in-line pumps are designed to push fuel not pull fuel, With the proper pressure pump a regulator isn't needed, None of these cheap fuel pumps will last very long. I went through 3 that were mounted correctly with-in a year, I put a TBI pump back in the tank with a return regulator and haven't had a issue in 3+ years......

Yeah. But the only problem trying to find a pump that regulates the right amount of pressure to the carb it is all Discontinued by AcDelco..Not many other companys make these types of pumps.. N i believe airtex. Has 1. But i aint a fan of them. So ma brotha . U gona have to either cop that. Or just put a high presure pump in the tank an just run a regulator on the outside

But i'm stuck, idk if i should get a solenoid style pump or rotary style. Whats the differences???

I will eventually get one back in the tank, but my carb doesnt have a return i don't think, Ill get pics today of the carb to try to see if you guys could tell me.

The return is the smaller fitting in between the two large ones.
The solenoid type produce a pulsating pressure. I had one back in the 70's. It was noisy as could be, even though it was mounted to the frame and not the body. Not convinced it was any better than the mechanical pump.
While some pumps have a built-in regulator, most good ones require a regulator before the carb.
