Re: Just bought a 91 Z VERT....
It does not have a speck of rust under the car and has a new Flowmaster exhaust. Seats need to be recovered and it has a crack in the dash, The rear plastic window is ripped so I will replace the top... but so far I am happy with it. More pictures to follow. Mike

Re: Just bought a 91 Z VERT....
Nice looking car. Highly reccommend you put some subframe connectors on it right away. These cars have unbelievably weak frames. best $200 I have put in my vert by a large margin. No point in waiting until you tweak the fram or the creaks and groans start to drive you crazy. It will make a big diff i your launch as well.
Congrats on the purchase.

Sweet, the blue is best imo but paint those GFX back to blue and the headlights to black. Car like that in Canada right now would be about $6000 CDN if mechanically sound.

check out ebay for parts mainly the roof. and be sure to get one with a glass window.. i got one with a plastic window cause money was tight it fit perfect but u cant tint plastic also if u find a rear spoiler set for a good price get it they are hard to find in good condition and come in handy if u accidently break one like i did when i tapped a tree. im still looking for one but moneys tight as usual.. nice ride i remember when i first got mine.. ahh the good days

Re: Just bought a 91 Z VERT....
I see you guy's talk about the release button, mine does nothing, also the lighter and interior lights don't work. I assume there should be lights in the leg compartments and on the rear view mirror. So I guess the first thing I must do is find the fuse box. Looked under the drivers side didn't see anything. So my first question is where is it?
Also how does the release button pop the back of the top. Isn't there a cotter pin that you have to reach back and remove manually every time you put the top down? Since this pin must be pulled what's the point of having the release up front if you still have to crawl back to pull the pin?
Also there is an ebay store selling cloth tops with glass window for $419.00 should I order one? Also another selling the vinal with a tinted non glass window for $259.00 (for the above poster) sorry I don't know how to post links. I want to get some work done on this car tomorrow. At least get the lights working. Thanks Mike

Re: Just bought a 91 Z VERT....
I don't have that release(I think). I have a switch between the window buttons and a cotter pin that must be pulled from behind the rear seats. My question was why have a switch up front if you still have to pull the pin manualy? Are you saying there should be a cable connected to the cotter pin? If so ...you still have to crawl back to put the pin back in, right?

Here is a picture that I found thanks to iroctopless. As you can see the release cable attaches to the lever assembly under the tonneau cover. On the top right it goes into the housing which has a plastic pull handle inside

Re: Just bought a 91 Z VERT....
Your tonneau release button can be a bit complicated, especially if your hatch pull down motor is not working. If the connection is not made at the trunk, the tonneau release button will not work, it is designed so both can not be open at the same time. As you read through the forums, you are going to find some fun little pain in the *** things, but it is worth it.
You also sould probably find out if your car is built in the first or last part of 91 as some of the things are different. The latter half of 91 had many of the same features as the 92 and the first half didn't.
Grats on the buy.

Re: Just bought a 91 Z VERT....
I put the top down yesterday and took it for a little ride. I found the handle that releases the pin but the cable was not hooked up to anything. There must be a piece missing but pulling the pin was no big deal.
I also found an electrical cable with 3 wires in it coming up between the back seats, it had been cut and what ever it was connected to missing. There were cable loops on each side of the car to pull in order to release the top lid. Again no big deal. Top went right in and lid snapped in place very easy. The rear seats however would not snap back in place with top folded in. Again no big deal. Car looks very cool with top down. Seems like it would be very easy to get a chick to hop in with you with the car being all open like that as opposed to a coupe. lol
After about 20min driving in the 50 degree weather I had had enough and the top went right up into place with no problems.
I also found a bad fuse and now the power mirrors, horn, lighter and map lights work. I thought there would be lights in the leg compartments but there are not. Strange the map lights would not turn off. I tried turning the headlight ****...didn't help. and the two switches on the mirror did nothing. I finely had to put the switches to at half way point so they didn't connect either way to get the lights out.
My next move now is to get new tires, as the ones on the car have good tread but have dry rot cracks on the sides. Don't think they will pass inspection. Although the rims on this car are perfect I don't think they look as good as the older iroc rims. As luck would have it I found a set of 87 iroc rims on CL with 4 new tires mounted on them for just $250.
I assume they will fit on my 91? If not please let me know asap. If anyone wants my wheels and you live in the Portsmouth area let me know. Mike

Re: Just bought a 91 Z VERT....
Unless you want your car to look like someone wrecked it and put it back together, don't put the older wheels on. You have a 91, if you want to change wheels, use aftermarket ones. Another answer would be to strip the clear, sand off the mill marks, and polish the ones you have now! They can be made to look as polished as chrome and it looks fantastic. It is a bunch of work, but much better than putting older style wheels on your car. I love the IROC wheels also, but not on a 91 or 92.

Re: Just bought a 91 Z VERT....
The cars been sitting so long the tires are dry rotted and won't pass inspection. The reason I bought these older wheels are because they are in perfect condition and came with 4 tires that will pass inspection. Two of the tires are brand new, the other two about 75%. My total cost is $250 for all. When the tires wear out I can switch back to the 91 rims and spend the 700 to 800 dollars for new tires then and still probably sell the older rims for more than the 250 I just paid. Still think I making a mistake?

Personally I like the 85-87 style iroc rims.If I could find a nice set of 85-87 gold irocs locally I would swap out the ones on my 89 in a second

As luck would have it alright. Your not near Vancouver by any chance are you? I placed dibs on those but I guess you are the guy that beat me to the punch. I wanted those tires.
