restoring 1988 iroc convertible ground up$$$$
A friend of mine had the car customized. For that reason it was stolen out of his front yard with a tow truck. The wiring was cut seats were cut exterior body parts were destroyed. For some reason my friend gutted the car and threw away almost everything except the shell, top, motor, and tranny. Ive had the car for about 4 months now and ive got a lot of hours and $$$ invested. I already own a 1985 z 28 305tpi and im learning new things every day about these cars. I have many pieces that came from a 1986 hardtop iroc w/305 tpi interior and some wiring. I still am not sure about many pieces that are diffrent from the hardtops. If any one can maybe help me with a list of parts that will be different on the convertible. The stuff i have so far is front and back seats, console, dash, dash wiring, door panels, ecm, and most of the wiring except engine wiring.please let me know if this stuff is gonna work. Really need to know what and how many pieces will be different so i can work on finding them. Just to let you know how this restoration is Im paying 13,000 dollars on new paint and leather interior alone. Absolutely Nothing being done half A** on this car. would really appreciate all the help i can get thanks!

Good luck with your car - It's good to hear from someone who's bringing a 'vert back from the dead; i.e. a car that just as easily could have been parted out, or junked. There aren't going to be any more of these cars, just fewer of them, every one that's put back on the road is one that's still around for them sunny days . . .

Yah - this is pretty much the place to find out whatever you'll need for tech info, finding stuff you need, or just moral support - I bought my car several months ago, and then went looking for websites - found this one, and didn't look a whole lot further. This is my first Camaro, and I've learned a lot about these cars here. Lot of good people on here who know a lot about these cars.

Re: restoring 1988 iroc convertible ground up$$$$
Electrically I can't think of any differences in a hardtop and a vert.Anything pertaining to the convertible top, tonneau cover and trunk lid are the hard to find parts.Oh yea our seatbelts and the panels beside the rear seat are hard to find also.Parts are out there but hard to find.Good luck,I am in the process of bringing an 88 back to life also.Mine was used a parts car also.

Luckily I have been able to get my hands on a lot of ext and int pieces i needed. The only things Im missing are probabley gonna be the hardest to find. I am a little confused Im not sure of how many pieces there are in the rear interior (seat belts, seat belt guides, rear panels. I know there are more pieces that I have no idea about. Maybe you can help me with a possible breakdown of the rear interior assembly and maybe the front header and pillar assembly. Thanks and good luck with yours!

Thats a big one paint could get very expensive. I also got a pretty good deal on my paint. A good friend of mine got the car in his shop and is taking it to the metal. Make sure you take yo time and prep it right will make all the difference. My car has been in the paint shop for about two months and is far from paint.

My replys could be hit and miss.I haven't had electricity going on four days now.I am working off my laptop in my service van while on the job.The vert people are very helpful in here cause we don't have much written info to referrence to. Good luck and be patient.

Yah, that sounds like a good deal even if you had to end up doing a bunch of work to the car - the irocs seem to be the cars that are most desirable from the standpoint of what they'll be worth in future . . .
