running cold

my car is running too cold. I was wondering what I can do to raise the running temp up a little. when Im out on the highway its not even reaching the second line on the gauge. when Im in town its running right on the second line not even at 200. I know if I turn the fan off it runs warmer but then it will overheat on me. I just put a new thermostat in it and a new air dam on it so I know they arent my problems what else can make it run this cold?

was temp is the first line?? i don't know what the temp guage on a camaro looks like... but i do know that temp guages and temp senders can be very unreliable and give false readings. if ur therm. is new and installed correctly, id be willing to bed ur temp sending unit is bad.. try installing a new one.

Hi there,

I know this post is pretty old, but im having the same issue with my 88 conv. Did you resolve by changing the temp. sending unit ?

Best regards

Re: running cold

My car runs too cool also when going down the road but heats up to normal when sitting! I know my temperature gauge sending unit is fine and pretty accurate but I think I may know the issue. My car has coolant lines that come out of the intake manifold and through a diverter valve that either sends the coolant to the heater core THEN through the engine oil cooler OR bypasses the heater core and sends the coolant through the engine oil cooler and back to the radiator. This diverter valve has failed and is always sending my coolant through the heater core and through the oil cooler then back to the radiator. I think that while driving, there is enough circulation and lines to cool down my car. I am going to bypass all of this and see what happens. I have a 192 degree thermostat and can hardly ever get close to that within a half hour of driving!

By the way, I am running a 383 stroker with Vortec heads.
