89 Camaro fan control
Is there a fan switch that will take the fan relay to ground without going through the ECM. If my thinking is correct I should be able to power a tan wire constantly when the car is running and ground the other side of the relay with a fan temperature switch that goes to ground using the green wire. This should energize the relay and turn on the fan. I can also run the green wire to a toggle switch and turn on the fan manually if desired. So I have two questions.
1. Who makes and where do I find one of these switches?
2. Am I nuts or has someone already done this???

i just did this yesterday! I ran a toggle switch from my passenger fan relay so that I can turn it on manually. Your right, I cut the green and tan wires off from the relay.
I then spliced the tan from the relay with the orange wire which is always "hot"
then crimped a wire from the green wire off the relay to a toggle switch in the dash where i then ran the other side to a ground. So now I can turn on that fan manually while the car is on or off!

All you have to do is tap into the correct wire in the pass side harness of the dash, near the ecm. Run a on/off switch from radio shack that grounds the correct wire when on and your'e done. It is green going to the connector on the engine switch, but I can't remember what color it is in the dash harness. There is no need to cut anything, just tap into the wire.

but if you do it that way, you can't run the fan with the ignition off. There are many ways to do it, I just made the tan wire always hot so that the relay would ingage with the car on or off..
meh there are many ways to do it i guess

can you guys help
So my car is overheating and when i looked under the hood i saw that the fan was not working. I think it may be the relay but I don't know where it is or how I can find out if that is what it is. Any ideas?

Pull the wire off of the fan switch (pass side head between cyl 6 & 8) and ground the wire with the key in the on position. The fan should come on. There are pics of the relay location on the boards...different years had them in different places.
