I looked at the techboard , really did not find the answer because to many people replied with very confusing and diffrent opinions.
So here i go .......

I live in FL , very hot and humid in summer, even now in jan/feb, the 305 runs a little hot for my taste .....i know the car is build for 195* - ~215*.
Anyhow , mine (and i calibrated the gauge with a laser)runs at over 220....Fan works like suposed to....still in stop and go ,car is over the top in heat!!!!

So , here is the question ,,,if i put a fan control switch , lets say on @ 180* / off @ 165* ....car will still run ~ 195 ( my guess ), which STAD should i use ??????

A 180 or a 195 ?????

Any other thought on this ???

Just wondering about my guessing *, since now with a 210 / 195 fan switch it runs over 220 ,,,mmmmmhhhhh???

Hi Scott , IMO if you have a 180 thermostat and a 180 fan switch I would say the car will run at 190/ 200 . I would find a after market fan switch that came on at a lower temp . like 170. to prep. the radiator fluid for the 180 thermostat. Here's what I did to keep my car cooler . I bought a fan from pick and pull that would fit inside of the front bracket against the front of the radiator. Then I reversed the wires so the fan would push air through the radiator .Kragens sells a relay and switch that is for this kind of setup.(any auto parts store should)I believe its also used to wire up axillary running lights.(comes with full instructions.) So I ran the manual switch to the dash. Its run through a power line that's only hot with the key on. That way I can shut it off manually if I want to with the switch. But it comes on automatically with start up. The stock fan only comes on when the temp. gets to 200. At that point both fans are running. (The stock fan switch is set at 220 or 230 I think. )Thats to hot IMO. I replaced the stock fan switch with a 200 degree switch instead. (fits where the stock switch was. Its a direct after market replacement ). So far Its really helped a lot. Car stays at 190 most of the time and never above 220even in heavy traffic.) By the way I also have a Derally combo cooler for the trans and engine oil. That is also installed on the back side ( engine side of the radiator) between the stock fan and radiator. Last but not least is the 180 thermostat. The stock thermostat is 195 I think ?. 160 is to low IMO. Ive been told that you may be able to get a 170 from the GM Dealer but I have never tried that. Personally I think a 180 is gust wright.

AC Delco offers a 170* Tstat. The part number is in Willie's articles on total fan control. You can order it for a few dollars from Rock Auto. Personally I don't think it's really necessary. With a 180* tstat my Formula runs 160* most of the time by the gauge. In traffic jams, drive thru's, etc it climbs to 220* and the fan kicks on. If anything, I'd drop the fan turn on temp to more closely match the ideal engine temp.
