heater core ?

I need a little help my heater core went bad and i read through all the post and i think i have a good handle on the task ahead. My Question is are there 5 screws or six like the Haynes says holding the heater box cover to the car. I'm trying not to remove the dash i can see 5 screws but i cant find the six one is the Haynes wrong. I see the one that is the pain to reach but it says theres one at the top to the left, thats the one i don't see.

Re: heater core ?

Lay under the dash on the passenger side. Im not sure how many screws were there on mine. Its reletivly easy to do. You need to disconect the header hoses under the hood. be prepared to get coolent on the floorboard. I got mine at autozone for like 26 dollars. its more of a pain in the a@@ to put it back in. I had to have my girl feed it through the top while i pushed it in. Good luck

Re: heater core ?

Thanks for the replies there were only four screws I had to remove the cruse control box so i could see the hard screw. The CPU i just pulled to the side with the CPU out of the way i could just reach my hand in to guide the socket and it came right out. I stopped for the night tomorrow after work i will try to remove the hoses and then the four screws holding the heater core. So far not to bad I have to give all the credit to this forum because the Haynes i got seems to be more for the V6. Thanks again back at it tomorrow feel free to ad any more helpful hints.

Re: heater core ?

Well spent about 2 hours today the old heater core is out and the new one is in the car. It was late so i stopped after i got the new one in most of my time today was spent trying to get the hoses off and trying to get the new core in the two holes. It took a little time but it finally went in the new core matched up perfect with the old one. I got it from carquest they had two to chose from i went with the 40 dollar one instead of the 30 dollar one what the difference was i don't no. I will back at it tomorrow should finish it up in about an hour.

Re: heater core ?

New to joining the site. I come here often to find some answers but this time I need specific advice. I'm in the process of changing out the heater core in my 92 Camaro RS. I have the coolant drained, hoses off, dash pad off, some of the screws to the heater core cover. I can't find the other screw(s). I heard it's hard to get to but I cant even find it. Help!
