Blower sounds awful!
Hey guys, this is my first post here so go easy.
I just picked up a clean 86 Iroc. When I turn the fan switch on any speed the blower motor sounds awful, like a loud "humming".
So today I started to take out the blower motor thinking it was bad. I got it out and found that it spins just fine in my hand. I hooked up the wires and turned it on and it works fine.
For some reason I think the duct is clogged or something is blocking the air, causing that loud "humming" noise. No air comes out of the vents in the car, on any setting.
Anyone ever had this type of problem before? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Bill

Im thinking there is a blockage or something. Is there some kind of door or flapper in the ductwork that could be fubar?
Will I be removing the dash in this thing in my near future or is there an easier way?

Due to the fact you just bot the car almost anything is possible.
Make sure the PO didn’t reverse polarity on the blower.
If he did you might feel air blowing out of the intake.

Re: Air Apparent
There is a door under the dash - you can see it in the hole if you've taken the heater box off the firewall. Some cars are rod actuated, some are vacuum actuated.
I've also had this issue in the past, and it turned out to be a pin oak leak stuck in the vent that vibrated when the blower was blowing air - so you might stick an ear to each vent and listen - if there's a particular vent then remove that vent cover and gently run a coat hanger up in the hole to see if anything comes loose - but watch the eyes!

Re: Air Apparent
Fixed it!
I still had the blower motor out from yesterdays tinkering session. I decided to stick my hand inside the housing and feel around. Well apparently something was living in there at one time and made a huge nest.
I cleared out the mess and hooked up the fan and it worked! But only on defrost mode.
So then I took the control panel apart and found one vacuu hose disconnected. Once it was hooked up everything worked like its supposed to!
Thanks guys. Onto the next problem........
