How many Air dam pieces are there?

I took the old broken upper air dam off because there was hardly anthing left to it. I am trying to find a replacement for it, but I am not sure how many pieces there should be. I see a three piece. Then I see a lower air dam.

Heres this, but I didnt think transam took the same as firebird?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/82-90...item33623f4279

then after that is mounted is there something that goes onto it?

I looked at all of the firebird pictures, but it was hard to tell how many there are. Btw this is on a 85 firebird

Re: How many Air dam pieces are there?

It's different for different cars. Some 'Birds had 3 piece designs, some had the single piece. All of the Camaros that I know of had a 1 piece design, except for some of the SC's that had it kinda 'built' into the front nose or ground effect. Makes it confusing I know.

If it helps any, the 3 piece jobs had the main piece directly under the radiator (like the Camaro), and the two extras were on each end, and kinda angled towards rear of car if I remember correctly.

Sorry I'm not more help. Any of the designs you should be able to 'rig' up under your car (with the exception of the SC style that was built in to the nose).

I would say mine is the three piece since it looks like were it attaches there are parts of the old sides still connected. Is there still a piece that connects to the three piece design though.

Re: How many Air dam pieces are there?

I don't think so. I think that last ebay item is an alternative to the 3 piece. Might be for the base model firebird - kinda looks like what's 'built-in' on the base model Camaro nose piece (the SC model I was referring to).

Re: How many Air dam pieces are there?

I should mention that just about anything under there will work. The Camaro RS and IROC have a simple straight piece about 3ft long and maybe 4 in tall that bolts directly under the radiator. The purpose is to create a vacuum behind the radiator so that fresh air is 'sucked' in through the front of the radiator from the vacuum. Some think it pushes air through the front, but it does not - it creates this low pressure area (vacuum) and thus air automatically rushes in to fill the low pressure void thus going through the radiator. Many have taken sheet metal etc. and just made their own. The design is not as critical as the simple having of something there to create this low pressure area. Hope that makes sense.
