confusion over fan shrouds
HI, i am looking into getting a bigger fan.and i see all types online,,with shrouds that cover the whole radiator core. my setup is not like this.i have the top bracket that goes from the car, over top the radiator and is connected to the whole single fan assembly. wich pretty much is holding the radiator in place. if i were to purchase a fan and core shroud, and mounted it nice to my radiator,,how would i keep the radiator secured to the vehicle? because that stock top bracket i have would be removed..does anyone sell brackets for doing this? I noticed my bottom shroud piece im supposed to have is not there. if i were to find one,,would this be an adequate shroud set up??,,it just seems like the stock setup is so open..its just the top bracket,,and the bottom bracket on stock set ups? is that correct?...i have to find another way of mounting my radiator,,if i want to put a complete shroud over my core..i dont know how to approach that.

I made a bracket for my jy fans, out of a piece of checkerplate. The fan shroud bottom edge sits wedged down in the u-shaped lower radiator support. The upper edge of the fan shroud is sandwiched against the rad and upper rad support, factory style.

Just used whatever they had down the local Bunnings hardware (Home Depot etc for you) that felt tough enough. It's about 2mm -ish thick, too thick to bend easily by hand.
I cut it to size, gripped it between two pieces of angle held in the vice, and beat it over with a soft mallet to get the required crease.
I joined my two jy fan shrouds together with a length of angle top and bottom. The rear of the checkerplate bracket bolts to the top shroud angle, and the front bolts to the stock captive nuts on the bodywork.

Re: confusion over fan shrouds
I'm lucky, my father does HVAC for a living so he's got a full sheet metal shop. Right now the car has the mechanical fan setup. I have a new rad, and made my own shroud mounted to the radiator, but have been trying to figure out how to mount it to the car. It seems like I can just lose the bottom of the fan shroud. For the top I just need this piece to retain the radiator?

Don't lose any shrouding if you can help it. After much experimentation, I found that full shrouding is one of several critical areas that need to be addressed for most efficient cooling in hot climates. Seems there was no lower shroud from the factory, which imho may contribute to cooling problems in these cars.
Your exact situation will be different from mine, obviously we won't have the same fans/shroud. However, the concept for this retention bracket is the same. You'll just have to get creative like I did, and work out your own mount points.

Re: confusion over fan shrouds
I already fabricated a full shroud with only an 1" distance from the face of the radiator, but the shroud itself is mounted to the radiator. I just wasn't sure how to mount the rad to the car.
