did anyone have to take these off when replacing their Heater Core??? HELP!

OK< I just replaced my heater core in my 86's T/A but the new heater core was slightly bigger than the stock core. It fits in the heater box but the plastic piece that wraps around the core before the heater box cover goes on has these two metal brackets that the old core would lock into. the cover works fine when I take these metal brackets off. Is anyone else having this problem or do I need to get a different heater core?

Re: did anyone have to take these off when replacing their Heater Core??? HELP!

I replaced the heater core about six months ago and the only problem I had was getting the thing up in there. I had to stick a screwdriver up there to move a bracket out of the way. Once I did that it was like sticking a size 9 foot in a size 12 loafer. Easy peasy.

Dude I just swapped mine out a few months ago... My new core was bigger than the old one and the brackets wouldnt fit back in there so I just left them out... It wont hurt anything at all... Plus they are a PITA!!!!
