Hi all, I am n mechanic by any means...so,


I have to remove the cooling fan switch. Should expect cooling to pour out of it?

Yes. If your are replacing it, leave the rad cap on while doing the job. If the cap is off when the switch is removed, coolant will gush out. If you are quick, the coolant loss will be so minimal that you won't even have to top it up.

Or, you can drain the radiator, replace the switch, fill it back up and burp the radiator, also with minimal mess.

I've never personally tried it with the cap on but...I suppose if you have the new one handy, already covered with a small bit of teflon tape and are quick about the swap, the coolant loss would be minimal, just all over your arm.

Got it! Any of you know the wrench size for the switch? Better with a cup tool?

It's like 3/4 or 5/8 or 11/16...I can't remember for sure. hehe
It's a standard size though, not metric.

Yep 13/16, just try it. By the way, I have a manual switch that I want to convert to factory by getting the switch to work. My question is: I found the wire from the manual switch to the cooling fan relay. Can I disconnect the wire from manual switch and transfer to the coolant fan switch? As I read in the service manual, it should work, but I am no electrician...

After 3 weeks, this is what I found out after I disconnected the manual fan switch installed by the previous owner. My fan turn on with the a/c. The fan switch wire was burn at the tip and the coolant fan switch was broken. I was able to remove the fan switch, and I tried to install my new fan switch but it was the wrong one, so I ordered one from Auto Zone. Waiting for it at this point. The problem I have is that I read that if I ground(with key in turn on position)my fan switch wire, the fan should turn on. Mine, does not turn on.
However, I can get about 12 volt from the wire with my multimeter. Any suggestion?

Replace the relay and ground it again. Should be the issue.

I did change the relay but the fan still not coming on...I will test today that the relay to make sure is working.
Any other suggestion?

Relay is working...nothing I have done according to service manual and Haynes do not turn on the fan EXCEPT the red and black wire to the fan connector failed the test light. However, the fan comes on with the manual switch installed and the A/C.
