Using EBL flash with USB serial Adapter

My USB serial adapter is a HP P/N 5184-2238 I’m trying to use it with my EBL flash.
Looks like it uses a FTDI chipset looking at it in device manager , Are most USB serial converters using this chipset the same?
Also the original cable is missing can I use a 6’ phone cable between the EBL and the serial to RJ11 converter?

thanks

For the most part they are the same. IIRC, there are only two chips that are used for the RS-232/serial cables.

Yes, be sure it is a 4-wire cable (some are 2-wire). And it has to be a phone cord, not a data cable. Of course will also require the RJ11/DB9 adapter.

RBob.
