Viper System auxilliary functions: calling all Alarm Gurus

Here's the setup: I've got a Viper alarm system (Model 600 ?)in my T/A that I had installed about 5 years or so ago. The remote has four buttons: Arm, Disarm, and two auxilliary functions. There were add on kits for things like window roll-up and trunk release. I didn't add anything on, but now I want to.

I want to patch in the output from one of the auxilliaries to the remote release for my rear hatch. I've already got the button on the dash from the factory, I figure there's some output from the alarm box that I can use to run a relay across the release switch.

I know what I'm going to do the factory wiring, but I dont know what to look for on the alarm hardware. Any help, tips or suggestions would be welcome.

This is actually a really easy thing to do; all you need is a single pulse of 12v to the trunk release to pop the trunk open.

In my 88 GTA, the black/white wire on the trunk release switch was the thing you have to feed 12v to. There is no relay needed since you will be tripping the factory relay by tricking it into thinking you pressed the trunk release button. Just pull apart your gauge cluster until you have the backside of the trunk release switch accessible, find the right wire using a point tester (it will be cold until you press the switch and then it will become hot), and splice into it.

As for your factory wiring, just go and pick up a wiretap from home depot. I just got 100 of them for around $5.00. If you want to remove it in the future, the only thing that will be wrong with the factory wiring will be a hole in the insulation.

Popping the trunk release is the easy part of it. I'm trying to get the trunk release hooked to one of the buttons on the alarm remote (on the keychain) I'm trying to figure out what part of the alarm reciever to tap in to for the signal.

I may need a relay since the signal from the alarm reciever may not be 12V. I think it is, but I'm not sure. That's why I asked for help before I break in to any of the little black boxes under my dashboard.

Different manufactures do this different ways. Typically, there should be a few extra wires coming off the alarm control box under your dash for aux functions (popping trunk, etc). Mine, for example, has two extra wires that you can use for whatever you want. If you don't have any extra wires you will probably need to buy some kind of adaptor to get another line out.

I'm willing to bet that the receiver puts out 12v. The question is how many amps does it put out. If it doesn't have a very high amp circuit, you will need a relay. I highly doubt that you will run into any problems here though. Just clip on a voltmeter before hand to check for 12v.

As for the keychain, consult your manual as to what buttons will operate the aux functions.

Sorry for not being extremely helpful, but I don’t know all the ins and outs about your specific system.
