Wiring woes

Hi all. Just hoping to use the valuable resources on these boards. I have read a few posts, but I still need some help. The problem is intermitten start-ups. Some days are better than others, so I started looking over a few wires and replacing the battery. I changed the neg and pos battery cables, but still have problems. From what I have read, it is most likely a fusable link issue.
I am not too familiar with the electrical system, but I not too affraid to try either. I know there are fuse links near the starter and near the battery, but I need somebodys expertice and guidance in changing the links or using a donor Under Hood fuse box.
Would somebody please school a brotha'

look for fried wires from the headers, happened to me late one night
if i had keep it running would've not had to shell out a hundred clams for a slide truck (one simple wire)
and if the starter is old it may have no brushes left, worn commutator or bad solenoid/switch plate
i have fried a new battery and cables with an old stater with worn commutator
nothing like a new starter though
try to clean the starter connections if they are oil soaked
on my buddies 68 camaro we used a screwdriver/wrench to start it
(lookout for the headers they remove skin)
also dont do that if it is in gear it may run u over
had a buddy do that also
he used his chest as a wheel chock until the vehicle bounced over him and crashed down the street(a notorius ford problem seems they would jump from park to drive kinda freaky also knew of a ford that hit a house i was werking in same notorius prob)
once a fusible link is blown it usually will not conduct
sounds like an old starter
if not trace ur wires back to the ignition switch
and look for the usual mech probs
ignition switches do wear out(mainly the starter first)
have fun also harbor freight has nice inexpensive multimeters also some automotive tester types

Note

Now that you mention starter, I do have (what I think) a solenoid problem. I think the solenoid is going out because every now and again the starter will click, but won't spin. After a few turns of the ingnition, the starter cranks the motor over.
I guess I'll begin with the starter since it's been anoying me for a little while. I still would be interested in getting a copy of some one's write up on how to rid myself of the OEM fuse links as mine are aging.

Peace!
