My 87 Formula has been running roughly every now and then lately.
Occasionally, it throws code 34 (MAF sensor error). This has been happening more frequently as of late.
Now, I found out about the component known at the MAF power relay, which is mounted on the driver's side under the hood. Now, one of the wires there is sticking out of the plug (see picture). It's still attached solidly, as I can't pull it free (even with some moderated force), but I think it could be the cause for my problem.
Questions:
-What exactly does the MAF power relay do?
-What does the wire sticking out of the plug do?
-Can I fix this problem somehow? Would I need a new wiring set for the MAF?
Thanks in advance!
MAF power relay. Second wire from the left sticks out.

Just get a new pigtail and solder then shinkwrap the connections. Our cars connectors are know to do this, wire warms up, insulation shrinks back over time.
It sure cant hurt. I bought one myself a year or so ago.
The grease from the connector that GM put in works its way down the wire casing and over time it will pull down.
I spray carb cleaner in the wire casing, then gently slide the wire casing back up to the connector and recrimp it in place.
